Superlift VS RCD

I know superlift and RCD both have a sub frame piece that hangs down. i was wondering if somebody with and RCD and somebody else with a super lift could take a tape measurer and measure the distance between it and the ground. Also include the size tire you are running.

FYI if they dont pop on just ask bill and Zach they both have 35's also..., in thoery it should be the same as what your truck is now because its lowing it back to stock location so the CV-shafts dont bind...

zach is correct so figure it will be 3-4 inches lower than now since you wont have any t-bars to crank it up

Wow, someone actually comparing lifts instead of everyone saying, "That one sucks! Get the other one!" or "Why the hell do you want to lift your truck anyway!"

If you look at the subframe piece I think you might actually gain an inch or so over the superlift with the RCD because the RCD slopes downward from the middle of the subframe in a /\ shape and the superlift goes straight across. Other than that though, it should be near what the distance is stock because like Zach said, the LCS drops down so you can keep the stock CV range of motion to prevent them from binding.

Someone said 3-4 inches difference because of torsion bars... I say that's BS. The most difference you'll get out of t-bars would be ~2 inches if you luck out. The Coilovers with the RCD kit can also be tightened in a similar fashion to achieve a SMALL amount of extra lift. Somewhere in the range of .5-1".

i like the one piece subframe on the RCDs and i like how on the RCD lift the CVs are flat and not at big angles like the Superlift. What i dont like is the CoilOvers on the RCD. everyone I have seen 2-3 kits now installed on trucks in person, the coils seem all the way depressed, like it is almost bottomed out. I think if i was to get the RCD the coils would be the first things to replace. or maybe the whole shock in gerenal.

RCDs sub frame is like 2 pieces, the front sub frame which includes, bump stops, the cross member and the piece that the LCA bolts too.

where Superlift has several pieces down there, the cross member, that is bolted to the drop pieces for the LCA, it has these weird extenders/spacers for the bump stops.

There are some pluses to everything being bolted is you are more likly to break bolts then to mess up that bottom subframe but i like the idea of it all being one solid piece.

Also the Superlift Sway bar links SUCK, not my favorite at all. they chatter and make noise when the truck is on uneven terrain. The RCD links are just a basic link so i dont think they will do it at all.

If sombody with an RCD could take a simular pic that would be cool.

Just for the hell of it if I could get two measurements that would be cool.

If I knew how to weld and had more money, I would get the RCD. But since I can't and I'm poor, I'm saving for the superlift.

from seeing super lifts in person people make way to much of the T-bar brackets "hanging down" its really not bad at all, and RCD you still have those two support bars that go from the back of the front crossmember back that can be busted up really easy

Well, the first time you get stuck on your t-bars and have to call one of your friends to drive 30 miles to come and get you, you will wanna get rid of them.

Not to mention, coming over the top of that hill you can't see over and the truck smacking the ground and jumping all over the place...

I've alway wondered if the Camburg 6.0 shocks can be swapped for coiloves or modify some of the components to fit coilover in there. Then you could get rid of the t-bars and have a decently priced coilover suspension.

Although, they don't make that kit for the 4wd, do they?? Can't remember.

Anyway-- Torsion bars = the suck offroad.

That's just my 2 cents.

So many of y'all have never owned nor even SEEN the Superlift in person, so all you can do is make up hypothetical situations where you could get caught up on the drop brackets. They aren't bad at all and I would certainly buy the superlift kit again.

personally Channing i wouldnt take your advice on this one have you seen/installed a super lift and wheeled with one?..also your truck is two wheel drive and you only have 31's you get your ground clearness from tires, a minium of 33's with a superlift plus with like billz and Zach's truck running body lift also and 35's, the T-bars are the least of your worries...

That's the key thing here, everyone raves about losing the tbar mounts, but take a look at those supports hanging there. Anyone remember the pic of the RCD bars bashed to hell that was posted then quickly taken off ?
The money you save going Superlift you can get locker, tires, winch, etc...

I have 285/75/16s (about 33'') tires and the lowest part of my front end is 12''. Also, the RCD sway bar links are much better then stock, they are solid steel and also have a ball joint on one end for better flex.

what is a comparision like between ride quality? Which one can be put through more abuse and hold up, ignoring the t-bars and support bars to get "hung up by" ?
i think by the time i am ready to buy a lift, i could have new supports made up for free that would be stronger for the RCD, maybe even better coilovers. Hell the guy that would be doing that wants to 4 link my truck now anyways.

jeff, you need to let some air out of your tires. looks like the rear tire contact patch is like half the tire.

that kinda sucks about RCD's sway bar links. that is how superlifts are made. the ball joint wears out. then guess what you have to buy. new links. and RCD wants over a 100 for them.

As far as abuse goes, I think both of the kits are plenty strong. Seeing the way Jared whaled on his RCD kit before he sold his truck, and considering my Superlift survived rolling over 3 times with only one bent bolt, I'd say they've both stood the 'torture test' pretty well.

I can't compare ride qualities, but I'll offer my opinion that the Superlift shocks are a little too soft for my tastes. The ride quality was as good or better than the stock XLT 4x4. I'd wager that if you have the OEM bilstein shocks before lifting then you'll notice a decrease in the ride quality. Because the RCD uses Bilstein coilovers, and coilovers in general give better ride quality than torsion bars, that the RCD kit would give you a good increase in ride quality while still keeping good, stiff shocks for off-road. I think if you got some Bilstein 5100s or 5150s with the superlift kit, you'd have a great performer also and save yourself a few hundred bucks.

i agree. i think they are too soft as well.

and as far as the superlift holding up. its doing an excellent job. i just hope not to repeat that procedure that you did.
