Lifting my 2wd ranger?
 

Hey i have a 1997 2wd ranger and i want to lift it so i could atleast clear 31's.
A couple of my buddies gave me a couple ideas like get bigger coil spring and put washers on top of them and then add a leaf in the rear.
Or get f-250 a-arms from a older truck.
But i dont know, could anyone give me a couple of ideas, thanks

Since you have a 97, id say try and find you some F150 coils. I think one guy on here posted a thread about it and got about 4 inches from it. Gonna need a realignment afterwords though. Really you have one of the easiest front suspensions to work with. There are quite a few routes you could go. But i think the f150 coils would be the easiest and cheapest way to go. Then to lift the back just use blocks or add-a-leafs

Not too sure about f250. I think they are alittle more beefed up or have a larger diameter.

Yea, they will fit your year model. Im not too sure on the specifics of it, but i do know for a fact that they will fit.

I would not use F150 coils. First off they would be stiff as they have a different spring weight than a Ranger. Second if it gives you 4" of lift your not going to be able to get the front end aligned without drop brackets. If your looking to lift a 97 there are alot of cheap options. Check out some coil spacers, or 2" lift springs. If that's not enough go check out Rough Country suspension lifts. 4" is around 450 dollars, very affordable and lifting it the proper way.

Thanks for the tips, as I'd like a small lift on the front to level my 97 Mazda 2wd. You know where would be the best place to look for these 2" lift spring that you're talking about, specs, etc? 2" on the front would be just about right I think.

I like using Summitracing. The springs are made by Skyjacker and are listed as a 2" lift.

i heard they say 2" lift but they only give 1.5"

Awesome thanks for the heads up 91, found them on there, this is definitely on my shopping list now (97blue you're right they're 1.5", but that's all right with me).

My only question is that the site says that rear leafs are listed as "required parts", are they only recommending it to keep the ride balanced or how much worse would it ride if I only got the front springs? I don't mind a little rougher ride and don't want to un-level it with stiffer rear leafs (not to mention the extra $85 for the leafs).

It won't make the ride any stiffer, and you don't have to use there rear leafs. My truck had a much nicer ride when I switched to the Skyjcaker coils. Just remember that if your putting the 2" lift coils on your going to need a front end alignment with new cam bushing in order to get the alignment correct.
