Lower ball joint

I need help guys, once again. I own a 01 ranger 2wd 4.0 coil spring suspension. I have bought two different sets of lower ball joint and they don’t seem to fit. They are too small according to the mechanic, he said it has too much play when installed. Any idea what ball joint would fit? would an oversized ball joint fit?

You're the second person that I now of that has had that problem.

The only thing we could think of was that the lower control arm has been replaced with an aftermarket one, you'll probably have to get a new lower control arm with the ball joint already installed.

Was just looking at Oreilly auto parts and they K8771 and K8771T as well as K8738 numbers for your vehicle. If those are loose for some reason, one of two things could be true. First, you may have an aftermarket LCA that may not have a serviceable and the whole arm may need to come out. Second, your arm may be kaput and your lower may have moved around in the arm enough to oval out the sleeve. If that's the case, then you would also have to replace the arm. Serviceable lower control arms, at Oreilly's are going between $106 and $126 and would probably be a ton easier than pressing in a new ball joint. Also took a look at Summit, they have lower arms for $65-$70 in stock. Hope this helps. BTW, have dealt with this on my torsion bar ranger and just decided to replace the arms rather than press in new ball joints (which I have also done).
