Lowering a 2wd.
 

I have a 2000 Ranger standard cab 2wd. It has the 2.5L SOHC inline 4 cyl. I was wanting to lower it. Ive been looking at lowering it for quite a while, but since Im a college student its been put on the back burner. Anyway, what i want to know is has anyone done this to theirs? What kits, springs, shocks, any components did you use? If i go for a 2/3 drop I've heard that nothing elses is needed except springs, shocks, and of course a new alignment. But i would like to see a 3/3 or 3/5 drop. Do i need new spindles for that? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the help.

98+ trucks are relatively easy to lower. I lowered my brother's '01 XL 2.5L....using a DJM 4/5 kit. We started at like 6pm, and ended at about 7am. We were bullshizzing along the way of course. The DJM kit included everything....upper arms, lower arms, coils, sway bar links, rear flip kit, ball joints, bumpstops, etc....more doodads i don't remember what. I know we also needed to get cam bolts for the upper arms, purchased from summit. Shocks were extra. He also got a low profile tranny crossmember. I don't really know what's all involved with a 3/3 or 3/5 kit......but i can assume coils and a flip kit. The kit can be installed using normal shop tools.....normal hand tools....but we used the air compressor too.

I don't think i've ever seen lowering spindles for a 98+ ranger.

If money is tight...i'd just leave it.......or throw on a 2/3 DJM kit. And you can get 4/5 DJM kits with low miles used off rps.

i lowerd mine 2/3 and it looks more like a 3/4 i can get a pic if you like i only spent $250 on the djm kit

It just depends on what you want and how much you got to spend.

If your low budget start off with the 2/3 but youll want to go lower eventually and youll have to buy the djm upper and lower control arms to get the 4/5 drop which is the expensive part of the 4/5.

If I were you I would just save up for the 4/5 and save yourself the hassle of having to tear apart your truck again to put the arms on later if you start off with the 2/3 then you wont have to buy 2 alignments and less time on the truck as well.
