What he said.
Superlift said poo on the ranger after 97, and only offered the 4". But they also cut back on production of the pre98 kits, so its sometimes hard to find one. But i might have one in my future, I can get almost anything threw my new job.

ok i have spindles and the t-bars cranked which measured out to about 5.5" of lift on my edge and im running 31's. It doesnt look that bad but it looks weird. I went from 35's down to the 31's since i blew two out and couldnt afford to replace them. Now my truck does mostly sit since im not homw to drive it but it doesnt look bad. I dont have pics though cuz im 700 miles from it.
If you can, wait and do it at one time but if you must it wont look too bad.

Superlift makes either a 4" or a 5.5" lift for the '97 and older Rangers and a 4" lift for the '98 and newer Rangers......
Skyjacker makes a 4", 6", and a 8" kit for the '97 and older Rangers....but none for the '98 and newer Rangers
Superlift kits aren't that bad for any Ranger.....they are better than any other kit on the market for the '98+ Rangers......if you say that RCD makes a better kit then you are poorly mistaken.....RCD has extreme problems with their front coil overs sagging extremely bad..........Superlift has been in the business a long time and know what they are doing or they wouldn't be 1 of the top 2 lift kit makers.....
i would say for the '97 and older Ranger get yourself a Skyjacker system kit....it comes with the extended radius arms, 6" coils, drop pitman arm, your choice of rear springs, add a leaves, or blocks depending on what you want to pay for........the only thing you have to buy extra is the shocks and extended brake lines....The Skyjacker system in pricy........
The superlift kits are just as good as a skyjacker kit or they wouldn't sell so many of the kits and Superlift wouldn't back it by a life time warranty
I have the 5.5" Superlift on my '97 and haven't had any problems.......all i need to do is get a set of extended radius arms.....(aint gonna cause i'm going SAS!!!!!hopefully by year end!!!!)

Why go SAS? The D35 is fine in the front, you can run 38s on it if ya want. There's MANY members who do that. Not all on this site of course

Oh okay cool. Dude **** cutting stuff. I seriously recommend just going fullsize. Find a 9 inch axle from the back of any large pickup that is the same witdth as that 79 dana 44. It should be very easy to find. You'll save money instead of cuttin down an axle and geting new axle shafts with new bolt pattern.

It's silly to pay 200 bucks, you didnt even say how much its gonna cost for new rear axle shafts.
On top of that, i believe "034x4" said that he wanted bigger axles because even with his he has had to cut into the bed. With the bigger tires you'll have you'll still have rubbing unless you do the gobs of lift..which'll look "silly".
But whatever you wanna do. It'd just be better fullsize, much more stable too.
