Mustang II suspension??
 

Anybody ever looked into this at all? Since most of you guys go straight for the lift so probably not, but with Dano ditching his T-bars soon it got me thinking about how you could improve the stock junk up front for performance and handling.

I was reading an article about that PMA Ranger and it is using Stang II front suspension, but that is one hell of a custom truck.

I guess what I'm wondering is, is this a performance suspension, or a drop suspension?

its a lowering suspension. alot of hot rods use it cause its indipendent front end and makes room for a larger motor

relative to your stock stuff, MII is both a performance upgrade and a drop.
MII is not the ideal performance upgrade, but it is so widely re-produced nuthin else is discussed.

now gettin it under your truck is a totally different story. get ready for alot of fab work. either clippin your frame, or buildin a completely new one. i jus helped fit a custom MII(complete frame job) under a bodydropped 98.

i have a mustang II suspension, of course its still under the mustang II that i bought in 1984 and sits in the garage dorment.

its a good front end, i looked into it alot when i had my 68 stang, i was thinkin of using the mII front end, plus i wanted to throw my 429 i had in it haha god that was so long ago haha

If you have the coil springs/ arms on your truck just straight go to the DJM 4/5 with the new Upper and lower arms and coils up front your truck will ride like its on rails compared to stock.

Andy, if your looking to get lower, Mark gave you all the info you need. If your looking for performance, his advice will still work for the most part.

My troubles are 3 fold, 2 of which you won't have to deal with.

1.) Torsion bars. Its a CHEAP way to do a suspension setup. Cheaper then coils. Ford used it, I hate it.
2.) XLT's lower control arms are 1.25 inches smaller in mounting then the stock ' edge ' lower control arms. ( ask me how I know :) I have Scotty G's factory ones here and have been using them as a template ;) ). The lower XLT arms are NOT a direct bolt-in. The Uppers are though :) .

Those 2 items make life lovely in your regards. Heres my dilema and the 3rd issue..

Weight.
3.) I need adjustability as I'm going to be changing the weight of the front end of my truck. Drop kits for XLT's already have teh math done.. I have NO CLUE where my front end will be when I have it all put together.. I dunno if I will ' lay frame ' and have to have a custom set of coils bent up locally or if I'll be higher then Jeys truck with his solid axle and 40inch tires ( or however huge those monsters are ) .

The final reason I'm using a M2 front conversion.. Motor mounting. :)
