shackle question

hey guys... i had a "good" question i thought...do shackles cause spring fatigue over time? or does it not hurt the springs at all? sorry if it was a dumb question

you HAVE to have shackles or you will mess something up, i have heard of badd stuff happening when someone didnt have them..

BUT if you mean, like the Beltech 5400 chevy lowering shackles... i have no idea

I dont think it would do anything to fatigue the springs since the you have a shackle on there right now

It doesn't effect the spring at all to lengthen shackles, it simply increases the distance from spring to frame. No spring rates are effected. However they are required as a pivot point. You can't remove the shackles for a cheap "drop". Try flipping the springs under the axle.

That depends.

If you increase the center-to-center shackle length and do nothing else, it will raise the static height of the rear of the truck and increase the spring deflection when the suspension bottoms. If you are in situations where you use the truck hard off road or carry heavy loads in the bed, then the springs may fatigue and "sag" sooner. Longer shackles will have virtually no effect on the spring life of a truck that rarely or never bottoms its rear suspension.
