i plan on lifting my 96 ranger 2wd with the "Camburg Stage 2 Suspension Kit with heim radius arms & transmission cross member" on the kartek site and was wondering what i should do about the rear suspension to go a long with this, the truck will be mainly used for dunes and desert type terrans. any sugestions that you can give would be helpful the only criteria that i have at this point is that i woul like to keep the suspension under $5500 for pats.

also is this kit a quality piece or is there another that i should look at insteed.
any feedback or advice would be apriciated.

well, if heard of people swapping the leafs for explorer ones (i think an extra inch higher) or f150 leafs (dunno height)...

also some add blocks to space between the axle and leaf, but if you are dune jumping at all, i would stay away from that because you have a better chance of breaking the block....

theres also Add-a-Leaf, but im not sure what that does for you...

but its late, so im sure someone with more knowledge about it will answer this in the morning

Well, if I had your Ranger and $5500 bux to spend, I'd do this:

Camburg- Extreme Performance Off-Road System

5" Lift
14" Travel
$3500 Parts
$3950 Installed
Add $550 for transmission x member heim arms.

For the rear, it depends on what you want. If you just want to lift it with a decent ride quality, go with the:

Deaver- #23 Long Pre-runner pack for $450

Add the "Tig"-welded flipped shackles for $225

You'll have a very decent set up for around $5350

-OR-

For the rear you could go with the Rear shock mount / bed cage. w/ your choice of shocks:

Sway-A-Way 2.5" 16"
Bilstein weld top 60mm 16"
FOX 2.5" 14"
King 2.5" 14"

All for $650.00 installed... That would be a really sweet set up for about the same price or even less than $5350

Dont do blocks in the rear, all it does is cause axle wrap which you dont want, i use to launch really hard and my rear end would hop like a mo fo , i took the blocks out "for i am a street truck" to lower it alittle, and man, bye bye axle wrap... woo hoo... Get leafs, as in AAL"Add a leafs" or Deavers"just a good product"...

i would recommend either the fox or the kings. my boss really likes his fox's. one main reason is the fact that they can be re-buit with regular tools, kings have to be sent back to be re-buit. my boss has had his fox's re-built once so far. all he did was take it too his lift shop and the guy did it right then.

Hey Christian..

If you are going to do jumping or anything that requires GOOD suspension, you won't get anything less than a new custom spring pack. Through Camburg you can get a set of Deavers, which is the route you should take so you don't mess your junk up.

Sounds expensive. If you are a beginner, I would start out like one. Don't bite off more than you can chew. People get hurt by trying things they can't do

I'd recommend a custom deaver pack (or Giant Motorsports' leafs/shackles boasting 21" of full usable travel), a cage, and some nicely-valved Fox/King triple bypasses. You should be able to find them all under or at around your budget, good luck, and I can't wait to see it!

i say get all this for your truck if you can afford it. once you have the truck you can start experimenting slowly, but if you buy beginner thigns now, you will be wasting money later.

i say if you have the money go for it. i made that mistake once. i should have did a SAS on my truck instead of 3000 grand on the rcd lift. cause now in a the near future i will be doing the SAS so live and learn.

With that rationale, you should have bought a Jeep. The work is already done.

If you go out to the desert with several grand worth of parts on your truck, ride like you think you know how to, you ARE going to hurt people. When you first start lifting weights, you don't rack 350 on the bench just because "I'll get to it eventually, so why not start now??" Your work up to your skill level.

Sure I'm being a jerk, but I'm right.

down south i understand exactaly where you are coming from but i would rather spend a lot of money now insteed of some money now and a lot later. and i am not planing on going out and acting like a dumbass before i learn what im doing, i just cant understand buying 3000 worth of parts right now and then a year from now spending another 5gs to get what i want when i can just spend the 5gs right now.

Do the Chevy Spring Swap for the rear it gives you 3" of lift and ALOT of articualtion.

DONT do blocks or AALs they suck.
