Need Drag Suspension

i have an 89' ranger with a 331 stroker and has 4.56 gears. the rear suspension is stock and this winter i want to upgrade it so i dont have leaf springs that are in the way of much wider tires.

Ya ever hear the phrase "Speed cost money, how fast ya wanta go?"

Honestly............I did it with mostly all STOCK parts

Stock parts used:
00 Explorer front leaf spring mounts $30ea @ Ford dealership
00 Explorer 8.8 posi rearend $50 & my old 7.5
Explorer right side axle $0
Explorer U-bolts & spring/shock brackets $0
Original 94 Ranger leaf springs $0

Non-stock parts:
Northern Tool: Leaf spring perches $5ea
Local supplier: 2X3" 1/4"X3' angle iron $20
4" round tubing X 6" long $5
TSC: Grade 8 hardware $4/lb
Advance auto parts: Shackle kit $25
NAPA: Monroe shocks for a Cordoba $30
Whatever you decide to do for a shock mountin crossmember

Ingenuity:
Cut 2 15/16" out of left side axle tube
Put second right side axle in place of original
Spot welded it, then sleeved it
Cut down original shackles, then welded them to angle iron

Putting back together:
Drill out & remove all factory rivets for leaf spring mountin.
Mount Explorer front spring brackets.
Jack leaf springs up to find where you need to mount the rear shackle mounts
Mount rear shackle mounts (I used Grade 8 hardware, as I like stuff removable if necessary to replace).
Set NEW perches in place and center rearend & loosely tighten U-bolt nuts.
Mount tires & set down & ad weight to be equivelant to the bed, usin a small floor jack, set your pinion angle & shot weld the leaf spring perches.
While under the same load, tighten up your shackle bolts & leaf spring U-bolts.

That's all I can think of for now.......................

My 94 Ranger is my TOY, not my DD, so I don't get rushed..........

I had the whole thing torn down in like 3hrs, had the mods done in a week, and back together less than a week later.........I work 9-5 M-F, so I work in the garage a few hrs a night and most of Sat & relax on Sun, BUT I don't work out there every night religiously.

Ya, Ya.........I gotta admit they weren't the best I've done.........

Not gonna make any excuses, lineloc was actin up..........the guys there wanted to put water infront of the tires & I said "don't need it"..... and I'll tell ya what, these new tires I bought sure get sticky QUIK.

Ya gotta go to approx. 1 min. 30 secs. before the lineloc worked properly..........
