Need a lil' more splainin'...

It appears that my truck (2002 Edge, 4x2, w/torsoin bars) has a two piece upper control arm on the RHS. Are there bushings on the part of the assembly that bolts to the truck itself (the points, front and rear, that actually pivot when the suspension is absorbing the forces that make it pivot) and should this part be replaced when the upper control arms are replaced?. It looks like that particular area has no bushing, proper, but instead, has the camber/caster adjustment mechanisms.

Thanks again...

You can do one of two things:

Replace the ball joint carrier portion of the 2-piece upper control arm with another like the one you have now. The rubber isolation bushings are not on this part, so they would not be replaced. Ford discontinued this style but it is still available in the aftermarket.

OR

Install the newer 1-piece style upper control arm as used on 2003 1/2 and later TB Rangers. This part comes with new rubber bushings.

Seems pretty simple...

So the RH upper control arm from the 2003.5 Ranger will just bolt right into place? It just looked like, the short time I was under there, that the mounting of the movable portion was wider (front to rear) than the one piece arm on the LH side.

And thank you for your rapid response.

Have a nice day...

Yes, it's a bolt on. The newer 1-piece PS arm is a mirror image of the DS arm.

If you ask for a replacement for your 2002 at a Ford dealer parts counter, you will get the 1-piece arm. The 98~2003.5 2-piece version is no longer available from Ford.
