New Suspention Question

Hi Guys,

I know nothing about suspention and/or lifts of any kind but I know I want about another 2" of front and back height, mainly to give more clearance in the back for when I'm bombing around in the bushes with a canopy or wood ect (lots of camping). Im pretty sure the stock shocks are not made for what I use them for anyways so would new shocks help me out? I wasn;t sure if replacing them could give me more hieght. Any recomendations on what i should have put in and am I ont he right track? I dont want to jeopordize handling so I dont want to go too high, just need a little more. Also would my level kit have to come out(its just a tbar crank)?

thanks

There really isn't anything cheap as far as front suspension lifts for the new trucks, other than cranking your t-bars. I might suggest a 2 or 3" body lift, which will give you some wheel clearance, but no real extra ground clearance.

Also, new shocks will not lift your truck..

Good shocks to get would either be Bilstein or Fox

Is it 2008 were the torsion bar keys are lower? I would start by doing a prekey swap and shackles for the rear. I have a 2005 with cranked bars and shackles And I fit 33x12.5 tires with no rub on the street. With your stock tires this combo would be perfect

definitely do the prekey mod in front and some shackles in the rear. that should get you to where you wanna be.

pre-key is when you use 98-07 torsion keys because our 08 keys were cut differently and give us a lower stance. I have a ready lift leveling kit wish id waited before i knew about the pre-keys. I've never used Truxxx parts so i dont know how much quality they put into their parts..

Im almost content with the hieght up front, its more the rear that concerns me, if I just put in the shackles with my existing level kit in the front that would be ok right? What exactly are shackles and how much more clearance would I get in the back, not too much that it looks funny right?

shackles should give almost two inches in height in the rear

The 08 blocks are smaller, i forget by how much, but shackles would be ideal for you to give you more clearance in the rear. Yes it would raise the rear up but you probably have plenty more threads left to crank your torsion bars to compensate for the added height to the rear. You just need to remember that you'll put more stress on your front end parts the more you crank your t-bars.
