Need help figuring out what shocks I need

I bought my ranger a couple months back not running, it's a 1994 4.0 2wd. It has a 2 inch body lift all around and has 35" tires. I'm a newb to the offroad scene, and I need lots of help so please take it easy on me. Up front I have bent beams and some radius arms, I don't know much about the truck since I bought it off a tow truck yard. What I've noticed is that the front suspension was put together horribly bad (welding) the bottom of the shock mounts have big pieces of welding material caked up and the top of both shocks are crossthreaded, so the nut isn't even in all the way. Also, the coils have a couple of welded tabs on the top and one of the limiting strap is held using a holesaw instead of a washer. With that said I don't feel it's safe to drive let alone go off roading in it. Here come the questions: how do I measure how much travel I have up front? I want to replace the shocks and coils, but right now it's a budget build so I can't get a set of Fox or Kings. Any other good bang for buck shock? How do I measure for shocks? I'm not sure those old shocks are even the right length. I also want to replace the rear shocks, so the same questions apply, all that I can see done to the rear are shackles. It's going to be my daily driver, so there are no plans to launch it 10 feet in the air (yet) Thanks again for any help and sorry for the newb questions
