No, if your jack is tall enough to life the tires all the way off the ground, then you don't need to compress the spring. just unbolt the old ones (spray them with some WD-40 about 5 mins before hand, trust me, they rust up easy) then take the old ratchet and wrench to them. if you have access to air tools, i'd use them.

I changed the shocks out and they were the stock shocks with 130xxx on them haha it was easy I will update with pictures later . one of the strut in the from was broke and who knows how long it has been which was crazy. It was stuck in there and took me 3 hours to get out I had to basically cut it off... much better now that its done . it also raise my truck up about an inch from sag.

I changed front shocks a couple of times on my old 1994 Ranger and they look in about the same position on my 2008 Ranger. The toughest part on my old Ranger was getting the nut off the top shock rod as they rust on really bad. If you're lucky and the nuts are rusted badly on the shafts as mine were, as you wrench the nut off, the shaft will just break. Otherwise it'll take a long time wrenching the nut off. Then take the bolts off the bottom of the shock and pull the shock out.

Ya its very simple the one that took forever some how got the bottom of strut like flanges bent so that it wouldn't slide over the two studs on the bottom .. the shock was completely broke in half and I ended up cutting the flange of the shock
