Replacement shocks for my LII
 

What the heck is the ford part number? I've been searching like crazy and can't find much convincing info. And how much do they cost? I talked with my Ford parts guy and he says it'd be about $150 for a single front shock and $100 for a single rear!? Or are those prices for a pair of them and neither he nor I know it?

From what I've read, they aren't the Bilstein HD shocks that are sold on summit or elsewhere. The Ford Bilsteins are valved differently. Anyways, I just want to replace what's on my truck and I don't want to spend $500 to do it. Can y'all help me out?

I had the Heavy Duty ones on my truck for a while...and really liked them.....i'm talking the $240 shipped off ebay ones.

Id steer away from Ford shocks.

Search threads for shocks and you can find alot of info. Use keywords like bilstein, KYB, Rancho, ect... Depending on what your budget is you can get some good performing shocks, and not have to go through the Ford Stealership.

Id suggest any mono-tube shock like Bilstein or KYB's. I can get you some part #'s for KYB MonoMax's, just lemme know the year and how much suspension lift you have. Keep in mind good performing shocks aint cheap, expect to pay $40-80 per shock. Thay are worth the money, especially if you offroad, tow, or haul alot.

I appreciate it. My truck is an 03 LII with Bilstein shocks. I just want to replace them with the Bilstein shocks that it came with from the factory.

Oh sorry I didn't mean to imply sarcasm. I just know sometimes people see an answer for a thread and so they don't say anything after that. The second part was aimed at other people. Sorry man!

There should be a Bilstein number stamped in your original LII shock bodies. Maybe you could use that number to order them through a Bilstein dealer instead of a Ford dealer.

As far as price goes, individual Bilstein HD's are probably in the $60~75 range from the cheapest sources. If you can find a way to get the Ford numbers, you could go to an online Ford parts outlet like www.1stfordparts.com. They are usually about 25~30% less than list.

If all else fails, here are Bilstein's recommendations for 98+ 4x4. These are Bilstein HD's just like the stock LII shocks except they don't have Ford's LII-specific valving. How much different are they? Don't know but I bet it's not that much.

EShocks lists the set for $259.80 with free UPS Ground.

Thanks Bob. I'll double check on my shocks. The previous owner coated them in a black undercoating, but hopefully it will still be visible through that.

he has never actually done any real mods to his truck. just removed the front sway bar.

if you want a good aftermarket replacement shock then i suggest the monroe reflex "mono-tube" units

I saw that. That's kind of what prompted this post because I have found the HD shocks and threads talking about them on here plenty of times.

get a rebuildable bilstein like the 7100 and you can play with the valving yourself, not to mention never have to buy another shock again, not to mention bilstein=fawking badass company.

I'd love some 7100s, but the money just isn't around right now. I'm in the middle of a motor swap for the samurai and I'm building myself a doubler for it right now too. Between that and wanting to buy a welder, I'm a bit strapped for cash. I want to get the zuk up and running so I can take advantage of 26+ mpg.

what gears and tire size are you running. I was an inch from buying a built sammy myself, but a buddy of mine (sammy freak) was thinking I wouldnt get much better than my truck. on 4.10s and my 37 MT/Rs

The plan right now is a 1.6L, doubler, 6.5:1 case. It's got stock axle gears and 31" tires right now. That leaves the final tire ratio about what it was from the factory. I haven't hardly touched the D44s I'm planning for it, so I'll take advantage of the gas mileage while I'm building the axles, cage, and rest of the truck. The D44s will probably get 4.88s and I'll go with 37" MTRs.

a doubler AND 6.5:1? thats sounds a bit over the top to me...

Not when you only have 80 hp, lol. I've talked to a couple people who have the set up and they love it. The doubler's low range is only like 1.8:1 in low anyways.

Ive driven a sammy with 6.5:1 and 5:89s on 35s and it never missed a beat. came out to around 100:1 crawl ratio and thats a great ratio. why spend time and money on a doubler?
