replacing tierod castle nut

This weekend I was putting a new front axle in and when i was trying to remove the tierod i damaged the nut beyond use. Does anybody know where to get a new nut or what size i would need to replace it?

id just take it to a hardware store and get one.

I was going to take the tierod off and take it with me but I cant even budge it. Maybe i can take the drivers side off, I havnt thought of that yet.

Oh and i stopped at orileys tonight and bought a set of 4 castle nuts, the 9/16 had course threads and it started but got tight very soon, so either the bolt is fine threads or metric is what im guessing.

yeah man dont mess the threads up on the tie rod or youll really be in trouble

The threads on the tie rod are still fine, just the bolt is messed up. so to narrow it down its not 9/16 course or fine, fine starts on it and goes up a turn or two before it binds up and its not 14mm course. so i think its 14mm fine but couldnt find any in town. going to call a few places tomorrow and see what i can find out.

Do you have a thread gauge in your tap and die set, if so, determine the amount of threads per inch, that will help.

I have a thread gague for standard sizes but not for metric, or at least i have the things with the little teeth on it that you line up with the threads. I called ford today and ordered a pack of 4 nuts. The bad thing is they come in a pack of 4 and they didnt have any in stock. So i guess ill have some extras! The guy said they are size M14 but it didnt tell him the pitch. I think the M14 i bought last night had a pitch of 2, so the pitch should be less than 2. Still $2 a nut isnt a bad price since Menards was charging like $5.50.
