Running Aig Bags, limiting flex?
I have come to an issue I was not expecting but now its here. lol
I used to pull a trailer a lot, in recent times I kinda gave it up, but now that summer is approaching I have had several instances come up that i needed to use it. (short trips) Well I have alcan springs and they just cannot handle the weight but i love the ride and the flex while off road. anyone think I can run helper bags but still have the travel that i have now? i just dont see it working but maybe someone can say otherwise. |
you will limit your travel a bunch....if you flexed them out, you would stretch the bags out and probably destroy them....

With the correct bags and setup you could do it. It would need to prolly be setup with onboard air that way you could dump the air in the bags for everyday driving and wheeling then just pump them up when you need to tow.

a huge semi bag? I can think of a way to make it work on compression but when drooping it out would be the problem
|
I am actually thinking now to make some type of quick disconnect in theory
make them slide in and out of a pocket then i can just put them in when i tow and throw some air into them. |

so anyone know where i can just get a bag? i dont want gauges or lines and brackets/bolts. lol

i was gonna say make a system where you could put it in when you need to haul and take it out when your not...
but it seems you came to that conclusion |

but it seems you came to that conclusion lol yep, not sure why i didnt think of that earlier. I am watching some GM Truck bags on ebay right now figure I can make them work some how and if they go cheap even better! LOL |
You would need to run a compressor, small .5 or 1 gal tank and a valve to release pressure. On top of that you could do some wiring to be able to inflate and deflate from the cab. This would involve some electric valves.
There is a spot for most of that under the box at the passenger side in front of the wheel. might want to put some sort of skid and remote intake for the pump on it though. |

I have an air compressor at home, just use that, like i said short trips to and from maybe 15 miles max and i dont do it much, but when i need it i need it. |
What are you going to do if for some reason one of the bags loses pressure when your on your trip?
|
You can run quick disconnects on the air lines, then use a hitch pin as a disconnect for the mounts

since spring is almost upon us most of my relatives in town need some lawn stuff done and looks like i will be doing it. |
Yeah I thought of that, I was just putting that out there. This is going to be really cool if you do it.
|
oh i already have it figured out, just need to score a deal on bags.
|
OK, It should work fine as long as long as you don't go to far. on board air is handy though.
|
I am sure it is, but its pricey too. lol on board air will come later.
|
power tank ftw
|
have you already measured it out and such to find the length that you will need?
|
nah i was just going to get the bags if i could for cheap then figure out how to make it work
