ok well i just ordered my chevy drop shackles and ill pick them up monday and i was just curious as to the easiest way to install them, im thinking a frame lift and just letting the rear suspension droop, any suggestions?????

 

you just need to take most of the weight off the springs. the tires need to stay on the ground. i have done it with a jack in the past or the skid loader.

 

aight that the frame lift schould work perfect, are those bolts going to be a *****?? ive got an impact so hopefully that will make it easier

 

OH they can be depending on how bad the rust is. i had to replace my bushings and sleeve when i replaced mine on the splash

 

the last ones i did involved a torch, 4" grinder, die grinder, sledge hammer, prybar, impact, and PB blaster.

so be prepaired if they are rusty.

 

mine started to involve that ^^ then i just used a cutting torch and lobed off everything including the hangers in the back...and bought new one's there only $23 from the dealer

 

yea we didnt have that option and i only had a propane torch.

 

NEVER again lol.

I took my tires off to make things easier, but I put an aal on at the same time. I put a jack under the diff. and jacked up the truck, placed stands under the frame, then lowered the jack and let the axle rest on the frame. I didn't have enough room to use an impact. I had to use a ratchet and do it by had. I took a big hammer and wacked on the ratchet a little and it broke free.

 

They arnt all that hard.....

But yes they probably will be a pita....It will help if you have a propane torch to heat up the nuts so they come off easier, but start spraying PB blaster on them now....

I sprayed that stuff on mine for a few days before the install, and it is probably what made it easier to get them off manually. I didn't have to use a torch on mine. What takes the most time is getting the bolts out. They seemed a little long. My hand got tired from turning and turning.

 

just do me a faver shot some pictures when you do it so i can get a feel for it so if i ever do it i know whats going on

 

Rocky they can be extreamly easy beleave me i have done the easy one's then i have also replaced my stockers on my splash and it took about 6 hours because off all the rust...

 

Yeah mine were a pain in the **** too, but im just saying there are some easy ones out there, depends on where you live...and how much rust is on them....

If had ones that broke loose easily, and ive had ones that i just said screw it and cut / torched off...

My rear bushings on my leaf springs need replaced they are all tore up....

But i just didnt want him to think he couldnt do it, because you never know... But do expect it to take a while, lol

no i was supposed to get them today but no such luck, got to pick them up monday now....

 

wow got them in today and had them installed in less than an hour, gotta love lifts and air tools!!!! its alittle late for pics so ill get them up tommorrow......pumped looks so much better
