torsion bars...

On one of my questions earlier, someone mentioned my truck (2002 Edge, 4x2 w/torsion bar suspension.) has "F" bars, whatever in the hell that means. And as I am totally rebuilding the front end and lifting it 4" with 4" lift spindles I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on a pair if new torsion bars, too.

First off...are tortion bars "graded" or "rated"? Or are they specified by rod diameter? I assume some are stiffer than others but I'm just ignorant of how to pick the "right" bar for my truck. How expensive are they and are they costly to install?

Anyone care to offer any advice?

I put some of this information in your previous thread where you first asked about them (https://www.ranger-forums.com/suspen...8/#post2055799). However, I'll copy it here as well:

I've never seen quantifiable data as to what the different grades of bars actually correlate too - other than increased stiffness.

'Best' to 'Worst': 1,B then F type.

Front Torsion Bar Codes w/ Ford Part #'s:
1 = F67Z-5B326-FA (RH) & F67Z-5B326-FB (LH)
B = F57A-5B326-BC (RH) & F57A-5B327-BC (LH)
F = F57A-5B326-FC (RH) & F57A-5B327-FC (LH)

Probably +/- $250ish for the pair.

No, they don't have to be installed by a shop - but there is a huge amount of pressure on them, so you have to be careful when unloading them. They make a fancy 'torsion bar removal tool', but I know many guys have used a puller or even a c-clamp to make it happen.

Random picture of the tool:

At first I thought this was our SAS'd Admin (RazorsEDGE) and thought "What the heck does he want with torsion bars?"

Yea, I have a set of 1's. mount pleasant as in Michigan? They only have something like 90k kms on them. So barely 60k miles.

I don't know what to sell them for. I'd have to price out a set from a dealer and a wrecker and do an average.

I did offer them to Alex but I guess he's passing as he mentioned them to you.
