shocks- what to buy

99 4.0 4x4

I think the front shocks are shot, I can push down on the truck and it dosn't really bounce, but I seem to get some excessive chatter and it seems to drift a bit when I go over a bump. THey appear to be the orgionals and I just turned 100k this week. The rear are monroes and I think are fine.

I thought I wanted some bilsteins but the cheapest I've found them is $250 for a set of 4 on e-bay. Probably a fine price but with the holidays a little steep for the wallet...

Monroes are considerably cheaper, but they also have different kinds, Monroe-matic, sensa-trac, reflex. Plus I can get these same day at Sears.

Is there a considerable differance between all these different shocks.
This is pretty much a DD for me with light to med. duty hauling occasionally.

I just bought some KYB Monomax shocks. Waiting for them to arrive. I have heard good things about them. The set of 4 was about $75 cheaoer than the Bilsteins.

I also have KYB's and I love em!! (Btw mine is a '99 4x4 also) Please dont go with anything that Monroe sells. There shocks are junk (imo). And just fyi, Monroe makes Ranchos. Just a different name and color, they are built in the same factory. They are a twin-tube design. The MonoMax's are a monotube design, so no shock fade whatsoever. Most ppl on here is gonna say ranchos or bilsteins. Look into the performance and quality of the shock before ya decide to buy. Good shocks make a difference like night and day. I had Sensatracs on mine and I couldnt believe the difference after I installed the KYB's.

I have bilstein 5125s and love them. They are expensive though, I still think they were worth it.
