Should I lift or lower?

I have an 01 Edge 2WD. I am looking at my options and I cant decide if I should lift it or lower it. What do you guys think and what are the best kits for either way?

This will sound odd coming from myself.. Lift it.

Lowering with torsion bars is a pain and theres not much ' factory ' or ' aftermarket ' parts out there to do it. Lift kits can be bought and bolted right in.

What kit would you suggest. I was thinking 3" spindles, 3" BL, and AAL. Then run some 35's.

I would do a AAL and Chevy Drop Shackles in the back to get rid of the blocks.

Im a noob when it coes to suspension. How hard are shackles and AAL?

bpolly_2004 Jan 8, 2008 09:25 AM

chevy drop shackles and add a leaf.

04blackedge Jan 8, 2008 09:40 AM

Really easy, they can be done with basic hand tools. The body lift will probably be more work than putting on the suspension, but overall you can have it all done in a weekend with a buddy.

Thanks. Im thinking about a PA BL and Fabech spindles. Then I will do AAL and Shackles.

There ya go, you'll have it sittin good after that. Make sure to take pics when your done!

Honestly.. I don't know. Whatever is best for you. I'm not one for lifted trucks, I like lowered ones. I do know that if your on Torsion bars, properly lowering it is a pain in the arse and leads to a LOT of headaches. More people have had good instances of lifting a torsion bar-ed truck then lowering them.

I had a lifted 2WD. The big problem is if you drive it hard as I did, on or off road. You wear things out pretty quick. I've since SAS'd it, but I wouldn't have missed the fun I've had with it lifted in 2WD for the world.

i plan on lifting mine in the future sometime......thinkin about the fabtech kit.

Ranger_Guy15 Jan 8, 2008 04:35 PM

I would say lift it. In my opinion I dont like lowered trucks(commence flaming). Lifted looks more aggressive.

shackles are very easy. you can literally install them with 2 wrenches and a jack. lift it up, pop out 4 bolts, install new shackle, and youre set.

AAL are just trucky because you usually need c-clamps to help compress and hold the spring stack together. but they are still quite easy.

If you wanna lift it go with a 3" BL, a 3" Spindle lift, add some aal's and or shackles and regear, throw some 35's on and call it a day.

When i did my lift you kept the blocks. AAL around 1-1.5in lift, shackle 1.5-2in lift. Mine I got 1.5in out of the aal and 2in out of the shackle.

dont be a low life!!! get high!!!! haha.

beaver25 Jan 9, 2008 09:32 AM

Lift it I believe truck should only get lifted, if you want something lower you should just sell your truck and buy a car IMO

desertrunner07 Jan 9, 2008 12:08 PM

ah and i forgot to say.. i think you should lift it... especially being an edge.

Rembrandt Jan 10, 2008 09:28 AM

I would lift it as well. I have just a 3" body on mine and can squeeze in 32s but only have 31s on now. I still haven't decided what to do suspension wise yet. Either the 3" or 5.5" fabtech. or I might go all the way and buy a Camburg long travel kit cuz I really love jumping my truck :) haha. But I plan on dropping a 302 in it over the summer and that with the long travel kit would be a very fun truck
