Lowering 2001 Edge

I know i've brought this up before (lowering my edge) but you guys told me the eibach kit didnt work with edge's...so that was that. Anyways I'm thinking of purchasing these lowering keys as well as removing my rear blocks. I want to know your opinions before i order this as well as answer some questions for me.

1. will i need a camber re-adjusting? can someone give me a link to a good brand for my truck.
2. Should i buy new shocks? brand? links?
3. is there anything else i should know or do while i'm considering this?
4. Has anyone else here tried these keys yet?

Thanks for any help, i appreciate it.

Since I don't know for sure but I am almost positive that your gonna have to get a realignment. Usually anytime you mess with stuff you gotta get a new alignment. The edge shocks may be a little different but Im still running the stock length shocks on mine and Im down about 3 inches all around. For the camber adjustments, just get em on ebay for like 45 bucks and install yourself, local shops might try and rape you on the part and installation. stylinconcepts.com has a lot of shocks and stuff too. Thats all I can really say about that.

I am in class right now typing on my view and viewling it here and those look like the same ones I got bfor my ranger and they work well. I dropped my truck and than took it to ana align shop where the wanted 150 to put them on but they didn't know I already had em and than had them align it and all is good now with the drop. Gotta love lowered ranger, heh.

My tire shop put them on for free as part of the alignment.
I would beware going to low as you might have more issures than people going
to high. It might be better to sell and get an xlt(with coil springs)

damn, seems like a lot to lower a damn edge. Its a great write up and what not but personally I'd just get an XLT and drop that.

i dont think i would ever do that to my rear spring set up. haha

im leaning more towards a custom air bag suspension now, money isnt really an issue, i have been saving for along time now

like so...http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2217644

Everyone has their opinions on flipping the keys or not. I have found that most people that have the negative opinions regarding the flipped keys have never done it, and have only heard about the negative/problems that may arise from doing it.

I flipped my keys on my Edge almost as soon as I got the truck. I had never done it before, and had heard of no problems (other than a negative camber issue) with doing it.

I drove the truck that way for OVER A YEAR, with NO problems whatsoever with ride quality, possibility of torsion bar(s) popping out, keys not holding, etc.

It really bugs me when people start saying things that they have heard and have NOT experienced, only because they heard, feel, that it is improper. Just my .02 on that subject.

WERTY: depending on what your plans are for your Edge, you can decide what you want to do, and use these forums for the information like they are meant for.

On the torsion keys/retainaes themselves, theres 2 counter sinks that are 5/8ths of an inch . One is used for removal, the second for pressure adjustment on the bar itself..

What do you have the retainingbolt/adjuster notched into so the keys don't slip on a hard pothole, slamming the front of the vehical and literally destroying its suspension and possible other components?

I went and fabricated a set of keys that were reindexed 15degrees counter so the adjusters and retainers wouldn't be ' sloppy ' and risk popping out ( I like to drift and am very hard on suspension ).

Not to mention, flipping those keys and repositioning such, the deflection angle of the lower control arm is sitting higher. Theres less vertical movement available. a lower rated torsion bar ( f , e, d and even '2' ) will bottom out severly.

I Tried '1' rated bars and eventually settled on ' b' rated ones as they put the front suspension at a neutral balance. Shocks are another consideration in the mix.

It would suck to show someone how to do something to their vehical and have them risk injury or damage to it. food for thought..

D...
K...I'm glad that someone is actually talking from experience and not just out of their 'behind.' I meant no offense with what I said in my previous comment. It was just an observation from listening to a myriad of other people talking about it. I'm sorry you had problems with your 'key' flip. Hopefully you got whatever issues worked out, and are rollin safe once again.

You can put your seal of approval on something and when someone gets hurt from it or suffers vehical damage, you can feel good about it.

That's funny because I drove my truck with flipped keys for almost 2 years, infact about a month shy of 2 years. I beat the hell out of my truck and nothing happened too it. I never even ruined the balljoints until I lifted it. Now one would think that if yo are into drifting and such wouldn't this be the wrong vehicle to attempt it in, in the first place? I mean I don't know alot about that sport so to speak, but the vehicles I have seen drifiting have entirely different suspensions from what we are dealing with here. I used to drag race my truck both on the track and in the city. I have run from the cops (not reccomended, nor successfully). I'm not bragging when I say this, but I am saying that flipping the keys in no way caused any harm to me or my vehicle. Modifying your vehicle from stock be it up or down has it's inherant risks and anyone doing mods should know this. But to say that doing it this way is unsafe??? Don't think so. Is there more than one way to drop your truck? Yup... All I was doing was showing an option that worked well for me and served me quite nicely.

you cant even get that low with an edge, maybe as low as a xlt with a 2/3 drop but thats lowest you guys can go unless you reclip it with yota or mustang2 suspension and bag it.

save yourself the time and hassle buy a xlt with coil spring suspension so much easier.

im quite happy with how it turned out today, its sitting exactly how i wanted it....minus the negative camber, but im fixing that tomorrow when the kit shows up

I'll probably buy new shocks as well, i noticed during my test drive the shocks did rock pretty hard if i hit a small bump just right...but im not too worried i will just overnight the shocks tomorrow or something

oh and i had custom u-bolts made today for the rear...they work perfect

so now the rear is 2 inches lower and same with the front, so to answer the question i asked earlier...YES, these lowering keys do work!

and now pictures!

you need to bring the back down some more. Either a fllip kit (which might bring it down too far in relation to the front) or get the Belltech lowering leafs

Otherwise that truck looks good, I like it
