My prerunner Mid-travel front end. (Pics)
So for those of you who dont know, im building my truck to be a 1450 class prerunner and im working my way up from small to big. Heres my new front end set up and this is as far as im going with it until i save up for my long travel front end. Camburg was too expensive, so i went with fabtech and it rides and handles awesome.
Front end specs:
Fabtech 5.5 kit (uppers, spindle, coils)
2.0 Shock upgrade (Done by BTF fab)
2.0 x 8" Fox racing reservoir shocks
Upper a arm gussets for added strength (done by BTF fab)
8" limit straps to prevent damage from happening (Done by BTF fab)
My front end is now worth equal to if not more than my whole truck haha. Currently i have the truck strapped at 10" of travel. This was a big upgrade from my previous set up (just a fabtech spindle)
Full front end:
Upper a arm mounts gussets and the 2.0 shock upgrade:
New front end ride height: (rear end is stock, im working on that next)

I wish i could take credit for those awesome welds haha, but mine arent anywhere that great and i dont trust my welds yet to hold up a limit strap, so i had Brandon down at BTF Fabrication weld on all the that needed to be welded (the gussets, the shock mounts, and the limit strap tabs) He does great work and is a pretty cool guy.

the edge kit doesn't use stock spindles.. i think the edge kit is shown more because there are more people that run them

My 5.5 kit has fabtech coils, uppers, and spindles. and the limit strap is bolted up to a tab thats welded on the frame and its purpose is to LIMIT my down travel which is what mostly kills these spindles, hence why i got them. I installed everything myself on this truck except the welded on parts.
Buying the camburg kit didnt really make any sense to me, why would i pay 2,000 for a mid travel kit right now, when for 1,000 more i can have a full long travel kit?
And just FYI, the camburg and fabtech spindles are the EXACT SAME pressed in snout, the two companies just make thier own snout housings.

The first pic is (White truck) one i remember the bearing went out, bearings are always going to go out no matter what kit your running, its user error that the driver doesnt maintain his kit, not fabtechs.
The second pic (black truck) is an edge, so that kit is different from mine and that truck probably had cranked torsion bars which lead to more stress on the suspension, thats user error, not fabtechs.
Fabtech isnt the greatest company, but its not made out of cardboard lol. It handles and holds up for the beating most people give it if you know how to check and maintain it before you smash on it. Bad fabtech kit's are usually just a scapegoat for when things break so people can have something to blame it on :-P

Well in times like this a man will get what he can. Lance's truck is really coming along nicely. I remember the day he pulled up to my house and wanted to build a bumper. I was wondering why he wanted a bumper with no suspension but I spoke too soon. We are going to have to wait till the rear suspension is finished to really see how his kit handles. Who cares what kind of lift a guy has. If he loves his truck and loves to mod it, a real enthusiast would give him credit for doing anything besides keeping it stock.
