Lifting the rear: Deavers vs. AAL's

I just bought a set of Doestsch lift spindles, and it comes with blocks and new U bolts, but I dont want blocks. What would be the best way to lift the rear, what would the costs be, where and what do I need to buy, and what shocks do I need to run.

How much would the AAl's cost, just looked up the Deaves, and they want way to much for those. There is a 4 Wheel Parts here in town, guess that would be the best place to buy.

I'll give you that, they want way more than I am willing to pay, and since I don't off road much, and its just for looks, it would be stupid to pay $450 for a set of leaf springs that wont be used for what they were built for. How much do AAL's cost?

I had AAL's when my '03 was lifted and was an absolutley awful ride almost painful to go over a speed bump or whatnot. So, I ordered some deavers and they are so worth the money I didn't even need to slow down for those same speed bumps just flew right over them. They were worth every penny I paid for them, soaked every bump right up. I also ran Bilstein 5100's in the rear.

deavers are just a spring pack that is designed for how much lift you need so u dont use blocks.

i have AALs and they cost me about $35, they are the procomp short AALs for a better ride you can get the long AALs for $60 i think.

I think for now, I am gonna do the AAL's, along with the Chevy lowering shackle, and some good shocks. Down the road I will swpa out for the Deavers, maybe in a couple months or so. Next major save up is for wheels and tires.

The Deavers we need are the DVR-F31 scroll down on this page a bit and you will see them.

Blocks are not a big problem unless you have a lot of torque. It's only when you get really high, or foolishly use "stacked" blocks that aren't welded that you get into real trouble with engines our size. The main advantage of blocks, other than low cost, is the generally preserve your stock ride.

If you do blocks, be sure to do James Duff traction bars. They'll help stabilize the "twist" under load that increases with taller blocks.

I would not do AAL's on a daily driver unless you have a heavier type cap in the rear that might soften the ride. Your rear end will have a hard time staying planted when the spring rate is too high. That's awful when driving offroad, and uncomfortable on road.

I had problems with the stock blocks, and the 4.0...

Enough rpm, and a 3.0 with 4.10's ... Blocks CAN be a problem...

I am not running a ton of power, maybe 130-135HP at the wheels if that much, with 4:10 gears. I do have a 100-200 lbs camper shell, so that might help it a bit. I also plan to add the Duff bars no matter what.

i have aals on my daily driver and it really isnt that bad, although my plan is to remove them and get air-lift bags. all in all the AALs do the job, and the ride isnt that bad.

You're the only Ranger I've heard had problems with the stock blocks. What type of problem did you have?

Enough RPM and a shock load an you can have a problem with diffs, ujoints and axles as well -- especially with a manual.

I believe that you do feel that way -- but I've heard more people complain about the ride than find it acceptable. You must have a tougher tush than most, lol!

Deavers would appeal to me, When get that RCD lift kit they give you a AAL in the back, that may get switched out for some deavers.
