As can be seen in my signature, I currently have an '02 edge 2wd, which is just about paid for. I now have a 5 month old son, so we've kind of outgrown my truck. Our other vehicle is an '05 explorer. I'm thinking about, once I pay off my truck, getting rid of it and getting a sport trac('04-'06) so the family can fit and we won't have to keep taking the other vehicle out and racking up mileage. I know that the ST has the same t-bar susp. etc. My question is, what't the diff. in ride height vs a stock edge. I have all the stock parts in the attic for my ranger and was thinking of swapping everything over(wheels, tires, spindles, aal, & shackles) to the sport trac. If i'm not mistaking, the rear has a spring under? Thank for any input!

 

I just found this out the other day, I don't know if it's ALL sport tracs, but a dude on here with a lifted silver one has sprung under rear. That's all I can help you with, I'm sorry.

 

I asked Scott the same question. Here is what he said:
the suspension is the same in the front, same tbar setup
the rear is like a regular explorer, where its wider, and the leafs are under the frame rails and the axle sits ontop of the leafs, not under like a ranger

 

I figured that. But what about the ride height up front compared to a stock edge? Are the t-bars at a diff. setting making it ride like an explorer instead of stiff like an edge? I am just wondering if hypathetically I get a st, put on the spindles and a tiny bit of a t-bar crank(like my edge), then install my aal and shackle, would I need to do a spring over to get the rear up like my edge? I think a sport trac sits level, where as an edge the rear sits higher than the front. Is that the only diff. in suspension is that the rear of an edge sits higher? Basically, If I were to put my current setup on a sport track, would there be any difference in ride height on the sport trac(if any diff. in front height and spring under on rear)/ vs my edge. I would want the same stance that I have now.

 

AAL won't do squat on a spring under application.

I know that! That is why I was asking about the front ride height on the sport trac vs stock edge. I am wanting to know if the front sits lower than or the same as an edge. If it's the same, in order to get it to sit like my edge, I would have to do a spring over. That being the case, my aal would be put on it!

 

Actually an AAL will net you some lift with a spring under. My explorer sport has the spring under and the AAL gained me about 1.5" of lift.

an AAL curves the leafs more then stock, thus making a lift, it will lift any leaf springs if it curves it more, however you dont gain the little lift from the thickness of the AAL itself


i THINK the wheel wells are lower on a trac, but they came with a 30ish tire stock, and with a slight crank, im running 32s on mine, can easily fit 31 stock

 

how about front end stuff? i wanna know for a different reason, but is most of the stuff interchangeable?

 

I'm pretty sure the front diff is. Now about the suspension components I'm not sure. ScottG will know.
