Squeaky shocks???

Every time I hit some rough spots in the road the under-side of my truck starts squeaking. I took it in to my mech. and had him check all of the suspension componets and he said they were fine. No worn-out bushing, etc. I'm thinking it's the shocks cause they are from a newer manufacturer ("SuspensionMax"). Anyone else experience squeaks from sh*tty brand shock?

Ace 10-15-2008 01:51 PM

my lower ball joints squeaked when they needed replaced.

DviousDave 10-15-2008 03:44 PM

My lift isn't more then a year old yet. They shouldn't have failed that quickly, right? How about my shock theory? Could it be the shocks?

jaycheetwood 10-15-2008 03:50 PM

It could be just some dirt somewhere around the shock or its replacement time..

DviousDave 10-15-2008 03:59 PM

I'm thinking about replacing my shocks...but damn...I'll be kicking myself in the ass if that's not the cause.

pacodiablo 10-15-2008 04:17 PM

It's possible that they could squeak, but shocks don't usually make noise. They just don't work as well over time.

Check all of the shocks to see if they are leaking fluid.

Rock the truck up and down to see if you can replicate the noise and maybe track it down to a specific area.

Sorry to tell you, but sqeaking is much more likely to be ball joints than shocks.

rideabikenick 10-15-2008 04:17 PM

let me know cuz i got the same problem

DviousDave 10-15-2008 04:48 PM

Nick - I'll update this post just as soon as I find out where the squeak is coming from.

jaycheetwood 10-15-2008 04:49 PM

front or rear noise?

jaycheetwood 10-15-2008 04:50 PM

Oh and cant the leaf springs squeek?

Redneckstone 10-15-2008 04:59 PM

yes they can squeak there is insulators at the end of the leafs and if there worn out then they will..

there like $5 each if not cheaper and so simple to replace no reason not too

FullThrottle02 10-15-2008 05:51 PM

My truck squeaks like crazy and it is the polyurethane sway bar end links and mount bushings. I can hear it going over bumps.

Front.

99offroadrngr 10-16-2008 08:53 AM

mine is doing the exact same thing btu in the rear. when i have the truck parked a put pressure on the back bumper and squeak then squeak again when i let off. i hope its the shocks because i got a new set sitting in my room waiting to be put in.

Check the sway bar. You may need to put some grease where it connects to the frame and arms.

Jmhm17 10-16-2008 09:38 AM

could be the torsion bars too.. spray some wd40 in the front and back of the bar where it connects to the LCA. get it inside the "hex" hole in the arm.

99offroadrngr 10-16-2008 10:06 AM

i also just looked at the "insulators" on the leafs. look pretty old. gonna check if htey have them at autozone on my way home from class. if not, i will go to ford since i have to go there anyway to pick up some bolts i ordered.

I'm 2wd. I don't have torsion bars.

DviousDave 10-16-2008 10:49 AM

Also, how often should I grease the sway bar?

I rocked the truck but couldn't replicate the noise.
