quick question on u bolt size

on a 8.8 28 spline axle is the ubolt width 2 7/8 or will 3 inch work. ive been searching for a while now and i can only find 31 spline axle size

7.5 and 8.8 28 spline have a 2.75" O.D. axle tube.
