Looking to see peoples thoughts on this lift kit. I am thinking about it and getting the upgraded front driveshaft with it as well

SteelDirigible 10-31-2011 06:44 AM

its the only one available for the newer model 4x4s.

the68gabn 10-31-2011 06:49 AM

That is what I am finding out. Im jsut wondering if it is worth it or should I save up and look into say a dana 60 swap?

Scrambler82 10-31-2011 07:55 AM

If DD stick w/SL Kit.
If HD Off-Road go larger axle.

the68gabn 10-31-2011 04:54 PM

Scrambler82 I am still going to need the truck for my dd. but going with the kit wiull I get decent off road ability? I have an 04 XLT extended cab 4.0 SOHC minor mods, intake throttle body and exhaust. I jsut dont want to spend the time and money and it fall apart the first time I take it off road.

KLC 10-31-2011 04:56 PM

It will be perfect for a daily driver. And, no, it won't fall apart. Never had an issue myself.

FULLSCALE 10-31-2011 05:34 PM

Go ahead with the Superlift if it's a DD. I've got one with no big issues! Ride quality is same as stock and it is a little more capable offroad.

Scrambler82 10-31-2011 06:15 PM

To me the SL kit should be ok for moderate off reading and perfect for DD.

If you plan HD off reading you might want more suspension but you will give up some of the DD ride.

Always compromise...

Wirelessly posted (Droid2)

Had a Superlift on my 91 and wheeled it with no issues. I did get the new rear leafs with the kit because my old ones were shot, but if I were buying this kit for an 04 I would get the blocks.

Fink132 11-07-2011 08:43 PM

So this kit, coupled with the superlift driveshaft, will be all I need for the setup?? I would get someone to install the kit for me (neighbor, who is an ex-mechanic said it would be best to get it professonally done)
Would I need anything else?
Thoughts on the superlift skidplate??
Should i get the sweet lookin shock boots too??

Thanks...
Just wanting to start budgeting for my next lift so I can be double lifted on 33's

FULLSCALE 11-07-2011 08:47 PM

You'd be better off getting something different for lifting the rear besides the blocks for the rear... I used an AAL and shackles.

As for the driveshaft you can just have an XJ shaft shortened to fit, usually works out much cheaper!

I've got the stainless Superlift skid plate with no issues.

Fink132 11-09-2011 06:06 PM

^ your truck is exactly how I want mine to look....
Are you double lifted??

BLK02 11-09-2011 06:22 PM

perfectly fine reliability if you stick to 33's. If you ever want to run bigger do a sas.. dont do a bodylift, superlift on its own will be fine and DO NOT crank the tbars as far as they can go. Speaking from experience

No, just Superlift with no torsion bar cranking whatsoever on 33's.

Curious why you say "speaking from experience" what happened?

BTW - I'm in poco too...

BLK02 11-10-2011 05:31 AM

I ran a superlift with 35's and a crank, every single balljoint wore out and the cv's weren't happy either, same thing happened to -spilly on here, he ended up doing a SAS

This statement has me curious: why do you say don't do a body lift and Superlift to go bigger than 33's?

Black mamba 11-10-2011 10:21 AM

35s themselfs are going to be murder on your front end. Cranking the t bars and putting the ball joints out of wack will only make it worse.

How many miles are we talking before your balljoints wore out, and did your CV's break or what?

Most of these issues don't have anything to do with a Superlift and body lift. I wanted to know the reasoning behind saying if you're going bigger than 33's, don't do a body lift, go SAS.

Black mamba 11-10-2011 11:07 AM

Well he means that a sold axel is alot stronger than the IFS that's in our truck. So he would not advise putting bigger than 33s... But im doing it anyway lmao ;)

ME00Stepside 11-10-2011 11:14 AM

LOL. Well it's a given that the bigger you go, the more you're going to wear out suspension parts, but there have been plenty of guys running a Superlift and body lift and 34's or 35's without destroying their front ends. It just seemed like an odd statement.

BLK02 11-10-2011 11:14 AM

Yea I'm saying that the rangers stock joints an shafts can't really handle 35's. If your not going offroad and treating it nicely I'm sure your balljoints will last a lot longer than mine did,

I had flat out dangerous balljoints within 6k milesP

BLK02 11-10-2011 11:16 AM

I also had cranked bars though, keep your crank mild with your cv's as straight as possible

Balljoints I can see, that sort of a given, did your CV's die on you too?
