Tie rod grease boots
Hey Guys, long time reader and first time poster here.
I noticed that some of the grease boots on my tie rods (1994 mazda b4000) were ripped and leaking grease. I let my dad talk me into taking it to a mechanic, and the guy took $50 to tell me nothing was wrong, despite the fact there are OBVIOUS holes and rips... Anyways, I learned my lesson on that one and am going to try to replace them myself and I need some help. I think all the boots need replacing: the ends and the steering linkage ones in the middle. I see lots of directions on how to change tie rod ends but can anyone offer some advice for the boots themselves? Thanks! |
They come as a single piece, so just buy new outer tie rods. If you are talking about the big inner boot then I think you could get some from a ford dealer.

Thank a lot, that is great video!
I am most troubled about what is in the middle...here is a pic. You can even see the rip there if you look closely. Attachment 217605 Do you think I could take it apart right there and replace the boot or would I have to go in from the outer ends like in the video? |
