are traction bars really worth it?
ok my truck has no traction at all... like i was in 2nd gear today and i was just playing around and got on the gas and fishtailed.. it was sweet except i was in trafic.. well will traction bars really make a considerable difference??
|
no
Not for that.. |
thats a problem of traction control. traction bars help with wheel hop, usually happens to people running oversized tires.
|
nah, they dont help, they break easy.
|
You need better tires.
|
Traction bars are almost like everything else for our truck: if you can afford them, they'll break easily.
I bent a set of James Duff bars before.... Cal-Tracs makes a damn good set that essentially acts as a 4-link, but they're $400. |
I think traction bars, if hooked up or setup properly help a lot. I broke duff-bars before, and have since moved to a pair of lakewoods. No more wheel hop.
|
for the problem your experiencing, tractions bars wont help much. what you need is an LS and better tires
|
well kind sir i have a l/s lol...hmm what are some really really grippy street tires? or maybe a good tire that maybe might se some time off the road in som mud or somethign
|
Z rated tires will get u on the straight path....
i just bought my g/f some BFGoodrich Traction T/A tires rated to 150 mph will it ever get up that fast? hell no, its just a b18 motor, but still, the grip is awesome... |
hmm... im still not sure i dont want to become a street truck... but i want good tires.. i want to be a stocker untill i drop a 302 in there and become a sleeper
|
well, stayin on the road in a straight line is great too...u've got what, a 4 banger, and are already loseing grip? whats it gonna be like with the 302?
|
Check out Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s.. They rate well for wet and dry traction and are reasonably priced. I'll be replacing my Faklens with Indy 500s probably around the end of the summer.

are you joking.. lol i have the 4.0 ohv.. hehe i loose traction pretty easy... the indys are they really expensive? im gonna have to look them up.... and with the 302 i think an inch of cement in the bed should take care of that... hhahah |
whoops, sowwy, i didnt know engine size
cement? poor shocks.... :( |
go with some good AT tires if you still plan to take the truck off road
I am partial to the BFG line but others report good results with Coopers by the looks of them REVOS might also be well suited for your application |

kurt, you pick the tires you want and ill get you a deal on them. right now i have Dunlop GT qualifiers on the torino, and i did a lot of research when i bought them, they have performed well for me. now my favorite tire (though it is a car tire) is the Bridgestone Potenza G009. very very sticky, super soft compound but it has a nice long tread life. i could get you a set for probably 350 installed.
PS: i HAVE heard good things about the firestones mentioned earlier in this thread as well |
