I debated the other day if I had inadvertently installed my rear sway bar upside down. So today I decided to flip it around and see how it looked. Needless to say - it wasn't in the proper orientation until I flipped it around.

I was following a Gen2 Explorer today and it was like this:

 

Ree-hee-HEEELY? I guess I'm wrong! It sure seems to fit and function better the other way.

 

i just looked at mine, and it was on the front side of the axle but in the up position.

Since you're using it in a non-factory application, I'd say that it can go whichever way fits best. I wonder if using Ranger links with the Ex bar would improve the way the links fit.

 

That's a RANGER 8.8. I'm adapting the EXPLORER 8.8 to fit my Ranger. Some minor differences include the position of the sway bar and the lower shock mount locations.

Hmmmm....I never thought to combine the two! I'll have to check that out right now!

I took a look at the Ranger (actually Bronco II) sway bar end links. They are considerably shorter but have a larger offset than the Explorer links. This should compensate for the binding I have from the frame rails being 1.5" more narrow than the Explorer's.

 

Bob does it again. I got behind a 2002 Explorer today on the way home from the PGA final tournament in Tulsa, OK. Indeed you are right, and my original orientation was correct.
