So i was just wondering if u guys can tell me what i need to lift my 96 3.0L 2wd XLT ranger and maybe what rims and tires to get... i'm new at this and my budget is limited right now(tranny work)

but i would just like to know what i'll need to buy

 

How much lift do you want? 2 inch? 4 inch? 6 inch? What do you want to do with the truck. Street Driving? Off Road? Sand Racing? A better idea of what you want to do with the lift will help.

There are some very cheap lift kits out there for 2wd rangers that are pre-97, I have one on my truck now.

 

its going to be mostly street, i want it to just look a bit beefier than normal trucks and maybe once in a while going out to WV to do a little bit of off road, nothing heavy, i would say somewhere between 2-4 inches.. based off what everyone thinks will just make it look better over all

 

You can get 2" coil spacers for around $60.

Any lift over 2" will require new drop brackets.

Any lift will also require an alignment on the front end.

 

The easiest way to lift the truck for just looks and tire clearance is a body lift. You can usually lift the truck 3" with the body lift, and it's very affordable.

You can look into the cheap 4" suspension lifts that replaces more parts and takes more experience to install yourself. Like everything else though you get what you pay for and the cheap kits are rough with pretty stiff suspension.

 

well if anyone wants to give me their best opinion of what they think i should do... i'm open for ideas cause like i said i'm new to lifting and i also dont want to do a crappy job either

 

It all depends on your budget. You can spend anywhere from $100 (including alignment) to $3000 (including alignment).

 

ok lets say we put my max at 1500... what are my options lol... plus i might be able to get a free alignment at a local career center

 

You should be able to put together a nice suspension for that, probably a 6" long travel kit.

 

Now your talking, a long travel with the twin I-beams would be real nice.

 

ok suggestions arent bad, but your going to have to explain what i need to do or buy, i at least understood the twin i beam cause someone had mentioned to me previously that i cant do a simple raise the front end 2 in job

 

Camburg makes a 5" lift kit that gives you 10" of travel that can be bought for $1995.

thats looks freaking amazing but its gonna be out of my range and i'm not looking for a complete off road package... just a little something to get me higher off the ground but still doing it the right way

You will need a drop pitman arm, shocks, and extended brake lines

I have a set of slightly used Skyjacker shocks that might work for you.

 

and that covers both the front and the back right?

 

They should, but you need to look and see what is included with them.

I recommend getting a new set of Skyjacker leaf springs. They are really nice. I had them on my '97 Ranger

 

well this is a project that i'm thinking about trying near the middle to end of summer... i'm not ready to spend another wad of cash right after i just had my tranny fixed. but what ur giving me is really helping to start peicing this together so i can have everything ready when the time comes.... speaking of which i might want to know if there is someone around where i live to help install things.... i could probably figure it all out... but i dont want to take too long installing
