Street Truck

So after a long debate i think i am going to turn my 88 stx in to a street machine eventually dropping in a 302. However, i would like to get my truck down possibly 2 inches. Ive searched all previous threads on 4x4 lowering kits but still am not sure... Will i be able to drop it and What parts will i need for the drop?

If you are going to be going all out on the engine swap, you might as well switch the front suspension to a 2WD suspension... Easier to drop and I would bet its a good 50-100 lbs lighter...

Does anyone know if the STX rangers have stock body or suspension lifts... im only look for a small amount of drop 1-2 inches depending. I also am looking into a set of hellwig sway bars.

i believe the STX did in fact sit taller than other 4wds of the same vintage. you may be able to get your 2" drop by goin with regular 4wd components

the STX rangers did have a 2" factory lift, so yeah, just swapping out the stx suspension for normal 4x4 gear would get you your drop.

well.....only certain year STX's had the factory lift.....they were called "High Rider editions".......they were only on a Ranger STX up till '92......when they switched body style in '93, they did away with the factory lift.........

you could even get a STX in a 2wd version that was nothing but decals in '94 i believe........

FYI: if you are going to try and lower a 4x4, it would be cheaper to buy a different, 2wd Ranger and do it to the 2wd........your limiting factor on how low you can go with a TTB 4wd Ranger is the axle itself.....you would be LUCKY to get 2" lower than stock......the 2wd and 4wd Rangers have the same springs.....the height difference in a 2wd and a 4wd is the front axle beams...........

you MIGHT be able to get 2wd lowering springs, and then get 2wd drop brackets for the TTB.....but i dont know if the drop brackets will fit on the TTB..........

future fiberglass fenders... but im still debating the whole suspension the reason i decided on the street truck because it is hard to find a lift that will fit the stx model. I dont think i am any longer going to drop it because of the hastle... im thinking a set of hellwig sway bars.

ummmmm any lift for a 4x4 Ranger made for '97 and before will fit....mine is an STX and i have a SUperlift........even the STX's with the High Rider option, the aftermarket lifts will fit...........

if a lift kits say "Will not fit STX models", they are full of ****....the STX has the exact same suspension as the rest of the '97 and older Rangers....
