What are the specs on the coilovers I buy for conversion?
 
So I want to do the coilover conversion when i go back up to Anchorage(where my truck is) in 20 days. I have an 04 FX4 with body lift and superlift and I'd like the get as much lift as possible. What type and length of FOX coilover shock am i going to need? I was searching on r-f and couldn't find any info so I'd like if anyone could help me out.

Also, has anyone ran King coilovers? Do they bolt up?

I already said I did, tool. I didn't see where anyone posted specifics other than "Depends on application" and "800 lbs". And a few people jus said "call ORW". I'm seein if anyone can be a little more specific than that.

I just ordered mine from Nick at ORW last week, they are custom made and are not exactly the same as the ones that they originally offered with their coilover conversion kit. Also takes about 4weeks for them to be made.

Hmm okay, thanks for that. I'll have to call Nick if its possible to order the kit. Did you also order the brackets from him?

Also, ive been researching and this is what i've found so far..


Hey everyone its been awhile since i posted but i contacted ORW about Coil Overs fro my truck
with a 4in Superlift. They said I needed a 6.5in travel Fox shocks,had to order extended eyelets
for bolting purposes and I believe the diameter was 2in ( but not positive). The springs would be
750lb Eibach's. The total cost was about $500 fro a pair. I'm not sure if anyone needed the info but
just thoght i would share what I found out.

Why not get 19" limit straps if that's what you need? I used 8" limit straps.

Fox Coil-Over's and Hypercoil's, 6" Skyjacker Softride Lift Leaf Springs

Mine are a 12" coils. I cranked them while on the truck.

I believe Nick said you need a 2.0" x 5.0" coil-over. Keep in mind that you can't buy just any 5.0"
coil-over though. The coil-over's you get from Nick at ORW are custom made for the Ranger.
So you will still need to contact Nick.

The kit comes with Fox 2.0 Emulsions. And the ranger uses 650 lb springs.

Now its time to order me some 12" 750# hypercoils and Fox Shocks.

And here is the specs of the Shocks ill be getting:

The 2.0x6.5 shock from Fox:

Shock Travel: 6.50"
Extended Length: 19.35"
Collasped Length: 12.85"
Shaft size is: 5/8"
Fox Part #: 980-99-001A
That is a bunch of different quotes by the way

You could pick up 800 lb coils but the ride will be very stiff. The only benefit of such a stiff coil is that it will not sag on your truck.

The problem is, regardless of the coil that you choose, you are limited to the available amount of suspension travel that you have. More lift equals less down travel and will eventually cause your CV's to bind and prematurely wear. The CV's will hold you back.

That being said, you should stay away from an 800 lb coil and go with anything below unless you plan to add more weight to the front of the truck. A 700 lb coil would probably do you good or a 750 lb one if you want more sag-resistance. Just keep in mind, stiffer coil = harsher ride and softer = more sag prone. Coilovers are adjustable, and while you might get more lift at the last tread on a heavier coil, it is not much more.

No they no longer make or sell the brackets. I was able to score a brand new set of the RCD brakets from the classifieds here.

don't get 800#. That is what I have and they would be way too stiff for the stock bumper and such.

I've got 200+ lbs of metal up front with a winch in the future

Okay, I would probably go 750. In the future I'd like to get a bumper fabbed up.

I think 750 would be plenty. Cause it is still kind of a stiff ride with what I have. Not as bad as t-bars though

then "ranger" had 800#'s with nothing and hated it

I ran 750s and i decided to go with the 850s instead. 750s have sagged too much for me but I have 35s and a 5.0 in the front too lol
