When you say down, you mean "up" towards the bottom of the truck?

Roll the tires 1/2 a revolution and bounce the suspension and then take the measurement again. On my 4x4, 5 turns is roughly an inch.

Tightening the bolts clockwise increases the ride height.

at work, when we do it, we just measure the wheel well gap, raise it up to desired lift , and even them out. we use an impact though, so i dont know how many turns we get out of them. wouldnt really matter in some cases anyways because they arent even to begin with.

If your truck has been hard driven, and you have the "F" type (weakest) bars in front (which is what all 2WD's have for the most part), then they could easily be fatigued. I changed my beat F's for a set of stronger B's. Search the board a bit and you'll find quite a bit of info about the t-bar types. Use your imagination since they are often referred to by various terms.
