2006 (Ford) Ranger shock extensions
I bought an 06 Ranger and from the bottom of the door to ground it's about 25.5". I had some work done on it and my mechanic said the shocks were extended almost all the way out and that they had things called shock extensions that should have been used. Anyways, the passenger front shock top mounting bushing blew out and now the shock is just kinda wobbling around in the hole. What I would like to know is what kind of shocks should I buy, how long can I drive without this shock. I plan on getting it fixed ASAP but it might be a few days and where can I find the proper shock extensions.

Somebody has either maxed out the travel on the torsion bars, or they have added aftermarket "lift" keys that have maxed out the torsion bars. That's why your shock is over-extended. You may be able to find shocks for a 2" lift, just look for Ford Ranger lift shocks and make sure you understand that you need front shocks for a Ranger with torsion bars. Shocks for a Ranger with coil springs are different and won't work on your truck.

They moved the torsion bars forward by about 6" on the frame. But I was wondering if instead of special lifted Ranger shocks. I could just get a OEM style Bilstein shocks with a shock extender that screws over the threaded rod at the top of the shock?
