SAS guys I have a question .

I really have no idea what things MIGHT have cost, so I can't help you.
I can only tell you this: if you make it a long project, like a year or more, you'll have time to find deals and opportunities.
If you are impatient, and want to do it NOW, you'll generally pay a lot more. This is true in many projects and impatience or forced short time lines always bring increased cost.
I can only tell you that I'm well under $2K for the entire job, including tools. That is working almost exclusively with purchased or donated or traded-for junkyard parts, and buying rebuild kits for everything. Sometimes it costs as much to buy the rebuild parts as it did to buy, say, a front axle in the first place. You can get an axle for a couple of hundred sometimes, but by the time you regear and rebuild you have spent a few hundred more and those extra costs are hard to avoid.
If you have fab skills, that's one thing in your favor. I didn't, and ended up having to buy a welder (a cheapie unfortunately) and learn to weld and so forth. You spend money to save money in those cases because paying someone to SAS your truck is very expensive.
Overall, I'm afraid that you probably won't get a good answer to your question. There are so many variables that I think the numbers will just be all over the map.
My costs would have been lower if my truck had already been 4WD, obviously.

x2, Mines not done and Ive spent over 5k but I have bought parts for 3 different setups before I decided to stick with one. Not to mention mines more of a complete build then just a SAS like most people do. If you include Tools in that Im WAY over the 5k mark.
700 for welder
1000 for tube bender
100-200 in consumables
I have alot of money into the axles, that makes up a good chunk of change. I have about 4k in big ticket items.
1600 in the rear 9"
1000 in the front 44.
500 in Coilovers
500 in tires
550 in rims and beadlock rings
400 in seats

Dang I forgot about this thread , Well I was mainly curious because Im not sure what I want to do , I would like to get a bigger truck and it be 4x4 , but im haivng problem so I had this crazy Idea of V-8 swap and SAS .
And I was just real curiuos about what some of you guys have spent doing your SAS
To clarify I ment if someone gave you an axel or stearing compnent what it would have cost ball park if you baught the part .
I would definately do this myself with some good guidence , from a mechanic freind and a buddy who is welder fabricater . But im still nto sure what I want to do yet .
Thanks for all the replys.
