Wobble at low speeds and shake at 62+mph
Hi all! I just bought a 2002 Ranger XLT single cab with the 4cyl engine and auto TRANS. To commute back and forth to work in. Truck runs pretty good except when crawling at low speeds there is a wobble I feel. Also at about 62-68 mph there is a very noticeable shake the goes away below and above the listed speed. Truck had new lower control arm ball joints and new moog sway bar ties. Really would like to fix this issue for a better ride at 65 mph. Any ideas? The truck has aftermarket wheels and newer tires. When I bought it the owner said it had been sitting for a bit not being used. I plan on changing the upper control arms here soon.

have you checked the lower control rubber bushings for dry rot
rubber does deteriorate over time ans exposure to the elements now is a good time to replace them with poly urethane bushings |
I had a newer tire that caused that, something split/separated inside.
It could be balanced fine, but when under weight pressure you noticed a "bump" while at very low speeds, like you were running over a small rock off-center repeatedly, but it would be fine at higher speed and then caused a shake at highway speeds. Rotate tires back to front and see if it you can feel it more or less in the steering wheel. Road force balancing will almost always detect a "bad" tire. |
