15's vs other sizing

When most are lifting and adding larger tires to their Rangers, I noticed how not many are using bigger wheels than a stock-like 15" rim.

Any reason for that???

Would seem logical to add larger rims with a lift and bigger rubber.

Roach2004 11-06-2005 11:12 PM

The price goes up a bunch as rim size gets bigger.

I realize that. But that can't be the only reason most here still use 15's.....right?

tire choice is a factor as well...

ryanrebel125 11-06-2005 11:17 PM

its easier and cheaper to get rubber for the rims.

aftermarket 11-06-2005 11:17 PM

Leo, "factor" as in price of it, or what's actually available...

Kinda a no-brainer about $$$ obviously...

ryanrebel125 11-06-2005 11:18 PM

both.

FoMoCoFiddy 11-06-2005 11:21 PM

factor as in, some tires dont come in bigger rimed sizes

SuperGildo@RRP 11-06-2005 11:23 PM

because, with offroading you want more sidewall. more sidewall=more sidewall flex and thus the tires can wrap around things better and get the best grip. they are the smallest size the mass vehicles can use. bigger trucks can only use 16s or bigger so you will see more 17s and up on fullsize trucks.

thats why.

Plus, smaller rims will make your tires look bigger too. And you've got less chance of bashing your rim on a rock or something with more sidewall. Also, the cost for a 33" tire that fits a 15" rim will be less than a 33" tire that fits a 16 or 17 inch rim.

Bigger rims are worth a lot more, so if you damage them. you get screwed on price. They're harder for the engine to turn(additional weight).

I had to pay more for my 16 inch rim AT tires than i would with the same size and tire only with a 15 inch rim. But 18 inch rims on mudders are sweet looking. I've noticed Nitto & Toyo are coming out with larger rimmed AT & MT tires. As of now you can run a 22 inch rim on some MT's or AT's your choice.

^^^ Krawlers, too. 22" Special edition's out now...

Flyinfx4 11-07-2005 02:00 PM

ya it has alot to do with price and availability. i have 17's and there are only a couple of choices for tires. and they are more expensive.

karrbass4life 11-07-2005 02:45 PM

15's and 18's are both common then 16's and 17's.
