16" Tire Question
 

I had this posted with some other questions in the exterior forum. So sorry for the sort of double post. I also searched but a lot of the info was on 15" rims.

I have the stock crappy wranglers on the 16" wheels and I want to get new tires if it is worth it. I would like to get the largest tires I can without having rubbing issues. I have read that the max tire size I can put on without rubbing or modification is 265/75/16 or 31X10.5. Correct me if I am wrong but those tires aren't actually taller just wider than my stock 245/75/16. How much larger L or W are they in approx. inches. Also which of the 2 optional sizes is a bigger tire? Someone also said in the exterior forum that they have heard of 33s fitting on newer FX4s. I am thinking either BFG all terrains or Bridgestone Dueller Revos.

Any help or insight would be great.

265/75R16 is 32x10.5

You can fit 33x10.5 but they dont make that in 16" rim

285/75R16 do rub
Dont be afraid to be different.. both those are good but expensive tires.

Cool thanks for the info. I never understood why tires aren't always instead of like 265/75/16, instead they have to make it 32 X10.5 and screw me all up. I was also told that this tire would be about an inch larger than my stock. I just want that beefer look and my stocks just don't cut it. Hopefully one of the places I go will buy my stock tires from me since I only have a couple of thousand miles on them.

Use a tire calculator to find dimensions on P-metric tires like your originals.

Also, keep in mind that "inch sizes" like 31s or 33s are not exactly what you might expect. 31s are usually 30.5"~30.7" in diameter, for example.

Use the manufacturer spec pages to get the actual dimensions for those:

Well I just got 265/75's BFG all terrains put on and they fit and look great. I think I could have gone bigger after seeing them on my truck, but I am happy. I ended up getting $250 for my wranglers and then right now BFG has a $50 rebate when you buy 4 new tires. Bridgestone Dueller Revos also have $75 back if you buy 4, just a FYI.

The 285s rub on the inside not the "top" of the tire.
I had them test fitted.. they rubbed bad on mine.
My 265/75R16 are load range E their size is actually 31.9"
Most 265/75R16 are about 31.5~~
Most 31x10.5 are 30.5~~ its not an exact thing.

Its easy enough to convert if you dont have that calculator handy
which may or may not agree with the manufacturer's actual size...
[{(265 * 2)*.75} / 25.4] + 16 = diameter

[{(size * 2)*aspect ratio} / 25.4] + rim size = diameter

Size multiply by the aspect ratio for the height of the sidewall , double it
because you have tire above and below the rim(2 sidewalls duh) then
divide by 25.4 for the metric to inch conversion and add the rim size in inches.
