16x7 or 16x8?
How do I know which one my truck has on it? I have a 2006 Ranger XLT 4x4 if this helps. Or does it matter when I go to get new tires? I plan on getting some 285/75 16s and doing the T-bar crank. Thanks.

it shouldn't matter, but they will be 16x7. You can look on the wheel to confirm this; I think it is printed on there.
I have an 06 4x4 XLT as well and mine do. |
actually with a 285 you may want an 8 inch wide wheel. according to summit, 285/75/16 s recommended at least 7.5" width. not sure how significant that will be.
|
You have 16x7s you can put 285s on a 7 inch wheel. 8 inch would look better and most likely give you better wear of the tire in the long run though.
|
Thanks for the info. Will keep in mind the tire wear when buying my tires.

When I switched from the stock 255/70R16s on my '05 to 285/75R16s, I switched to 16x8" wheels too. That extra inch is definitely a good thing for the tire, you want as much tread to reach the ground as possible.

what back spacing are you running on those wheels with the 285's? I have got 16X8 with 4.25 BS and I was wondering if you rubbed at all. I am currently running 265's I am in need of some tires before too long. |
I have a 97 Ranger XLT, stock wheels, (and I believe "stock" to be 7.25" that year) and I have been running for over 3yrs now, Kumho Road Venture AT tires.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....enture+AT+KL78 Size 32x11.50x15LT... . Yes there is rubbing when backing up, but I dont really drive around town backwards around corners.... I did install airbags inside the stock coil springs for additional assistance. Love these tires, and def buying another set when these wear down. Hope this helps ! |
I have no idea what my backspacing is, I just got some American Racing Baja wheels off of summit that was 5x4 1/2" bolt pattern.
My tires rubbed in the front on the inner fenderwells until I lifted the front 2". |
^alright thanks. What kind of lift did ya do? Just a T-Bar crank?
|
Okay newb question here, what exactly is backspacing? And Matt im just north of ya about 20-30mins, Go Vols!

So now I have an awesome tool that I'll never use again, unless someone on here wants me to swap a set of keys for them. |

I installed a set of forged lift keys. Found out the hard way that it's impossible to swap them unless you buy the $150 tool for them, too.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info.
Haha yeah I'd say there would be no possible way to do that without that tool that is necessary. WAYYY too unsafe, nearly destroyed my truck. |
^Holy jeez man, that sounds sketchy lol. Glad you got them on safely finally.
What tires are you running? I have narrowed my search to Duratracs or Nitto Terra Grapplers. The only thing the Nittos got going for them over the Duratracs are that they come in an 8-ply. |
Oh, I got Definity Dakota A/Ts from Pep-Boys. $560 for all 4, they were on sale about a month ago when I bought 'em. Pretty nice tires for the price.
|
Ha yeah I'd say $560 is good! The cheapest I can find the Nittos around where I live are just under $900.
