I have a 2001 ranger edge plus, its 4x4 so my front wheel bearings are connected to a CV joint. I recently hauled a 1000 lbs. load and i did over drive off and all and i was not speeding or doing any hard breaking. But after a few days i began hearing a sort of metallic squealing coming from the front, and just like anyone else, i thought it was my brakes. I have new pads and rotors on and the squealing continued. A guy i know said that the wheel hub and bearing were shot, but i have another guy telling me mostly it has to deal with dryness of the bearing and maybe try greasing.
My question is, is there anyway to diagnose the sound, greasing, packing anything?
If so, whats the best way?
If not, whats my best option?

 

A hub is typically nonservicable. Have you checked that you don't have a dragging caliper, they both make a similar sound.

 

Yes and its not that, i got under the truck and asked my bud to turn my tires, and it was coming behind the wheel, more in the drive shaft, so i ussumed it was that, i havent had time to get around to taking it off i just wanna know the best way to fix this problem without spending a hefty paycheck.

 

Could be the excluder seal thats dry. its #1 on the diagram in the other thread you asked in, which is on the side closest to the wheel/hub.

If greasing it doesn't make the sound go away then you'll need a new hub assembly that goes for around $200, get Timken brand assemblies.

Or...you can deal with the sound if there is no play in the wheel hub

 

You can get unit bearings a lot cheaper than $200. Hit up rockauto

If thats what it is. Super easy to replace as well.

 

well ironically the wheel hub was in a wobbly/ playing mode, so i got a new wheel hub and bearing because they make em w/ the bearing already sealed in, and not seperate, and im putting it on now.

 

Should fix your problem most likely then
