stock 2008 xl and ion alloys help

i have a 2008 xl 2wd stock (no lift). To keep my truck street legal where I live the tires cannot stick out.

i wanna try to avoid having to add fender flares but i want to get the ion alloy 171 style wheels with some bfg all terrain T/A tires. I think these are my two options.

15x8 ion 171
16x8 ion 171

The 15x8 have a large offset (-27).
The 16x8 have a smaller offset (-5).

I need help with choosing the wheel size and then the tire size I can go with while keeping my truck legal. Any help is much appreciated.

what do u plan on doing with the truck? are you going to lift it in it's future? if you plan on lifting it I'd go with the 15s it will be easier to get tires instead of the 16'' tire sizes. IMO get the 15s

i don't plan on lifting it.

you think the 15x8 (-27 offset) with bfg all terrains (30x9.5x15) will fit on my xl without sticking out or rubbing?

They may stick out a little, negative offset goes out. I would go with the 16 it will look good and will fit perfect. Tires aren't hard to find for 16 inch wheels it's a pretty common size

Haven't bought them yet though.

So its been like half a year since I last wrote in here but I finally ordered some wheels. I placed my order for some Ion alloys 171 black with machined lip in 16x8. Gonna pick up some firestone destination ATs locally to go with them.
Should get here in a week. Will post up some picks after they are up.

I'm looking at either the 235/70/16 or 245/70/16. I looked at the max tire size chart sticky and seems like I need to stick around 29" to 30" diameter overall to avoid rubbing and I think those are my two options. Don't care that much about having huge tires but I think these should look alright.

I'll let you know when everything is mounted up which size I went with.
