went wheeling last night, and only aired my MTRs down to 18 lbs so i could get it home without airing up.

but im curious how low i can take them...
working on an onboard air setup, so i can go as low as i need and fill up when i get off the trail

I would say 10 pretty easy. I never went lower than 10 myself.
I usually stayed in the 15-18 range if I was driving home.
If you need a cheap compressor until you get on-board air, do a google search for mv-50.
Fairly cheap and works pretty well. I used one for a long time airing up 33's (mine and my buddy's jeep), until one of the o-rings went out and I couldn't find a replacement that worked. I gave it to my friend.

Then I bought this one. Pumps faster and stays cooler. I don't know how reliable they would be as an on board compressor with a tank though. That was my initial plan but I moved, then sold the sport trac.

lol, why can't you just stop at the nearest gas station and air up on your way home? that's what I would do.

Some of us don't wheel in the mud hole behind a gas station, haha.
One of the places I used to go all the time was 30-40 miles from a gas station.

i was running 8 psi on 10 in rims without a problem. if i had 8 in rims id be around 6. but mine are 33" claws. ive seen people down at 6 with mtrs with no problems. the ride and traction you get in single digit psi is unbelievable. just experiment with it. start at 12 and work it down over the course of the day.

I've had my rears down to 6 before, but i only ran one easy trail, and i also have virtually no weight on my *** end.

the front's I've run at 10-12, but if its slippery i try and keep them up around 15 cause I've seen plenty of people slide into holes and crap then pop the bead.

I've driven a bit at 12, hell my rears are at 15 right now, you just gotta be careful.

Remember airing down below 10 PSI can cause damage to your inner sidewalls, and that can lead to a blow out. You wont see any damage on the outside but the inside of your tire could be all chewed up.
