30x9.5 will rub on stockers if you're turning the wheel in reverse, and sometimes on really sharp turns. If you're trying to run big tires, ya gotta get used to rubbing or get some rims with better backspacing. Stocks are 4.5" I think, I'm going with 3.75" on my next set o rims..

I know some people get 33x10.5 on stock 4x4 with no rubbing I would think 31x10.5 would work for him

Here's an idea of how an XLT sits on 30x9.5s. They rub on the fender splash guard on pretty much any sharp turn. 31s will fit, but they're wider and you've gotta take off the mudflaps. I took mine off long ago, I think they trap more mud than they prevent!

dang, lookin at that pic I feel like a nut for trying to stick 33s under there.. I guess we'll see!

Well I have 3.5" backspacing and if I turn too sharp, my 38's rub the leaf springs.

I think 30's are a safe bet. No way he can run anything bigger really.

ok i dont want to sound like a doushe but really i own a 2wd truck a low XLT like yours with 30" tires on it there isnt much "off-roading" you will be doing maybe the ocational trail or dirt road and romp though a feild crap but really i would know i have one. and mine is taller and on 32's. i would say stick with the bfg a/t its a good all around tire

That would be a good choice, they will be cheap in that size for sure.

what?! I just got 33's today and they're huge.. I'm not sure 5 38s would even fit in my apartment.. much less my truck!

I wouldn't say that. I go off-roading all the time.. I get shown up by a 2wd 84 ranger on stock suspension w/ a 4banger. Don't try to knock people from doing what they wanna do, rangers are pretty capable offroad. Not like rubi's, but plenty for him to go wheeling around like he wants. Check out a spring creek thread, lots of us are 2wd with 30" or smaller tires..

Rubi's suck. I'd rather have my ranger over a "rubi" anyday.
