used tires

ive elected to get some used tires from a trusted dealer in woodstock. i sell to these guys all the time at work, and they seem like legit people.. and ive asked co-workers and they say that these guys are legit. i talked to them today and they said that they got truck shipments in of used tires, and they didnt really get 32's very often but they had 31's all the time so im just gonna get some used 31's.. they said that theyll give them to me for $35 a tire and that i just need to come pick out the set i want. (the price varies with the amount of tread left i guess) i know that tires that have been sitting for a while can get dry rotted and stuff like that, but are there any other things i need to look for?? thx for any help.

I would definately check the inside of the tires also, you don't want ones that have a bunch of plugs/patches on them.

Yep look for wholes/patches/dry rot/good beed/for any nicks in the tread that be a sign of a bad spot in the tires.

is uneven wear an issue of bad alignment? or a bad tire? or does it depend

Usually bad alignment. Seems how most likely these tires will be allterrain tires that shouldn't matter much. I would really keep an eye out for patches and bad spots on the beads.

Also, there are numbers on the sidewall that indicate the age of the tire. It's about a 3 inch stream of numbers and the last two indicate the age of the tire, i.e. XXXXXXX04, would indicate that the tire was manufactured in 04, or about three years old. Be wary of any tire, no matter how it looks, being over 5 years old.

good luck putting 31's on a 16inch rim, that is if you plan on using your stock rims, you also may mean that you need 265's, hell try and get some 285's and crank the t-bars a tad........

id just buy new tires. you know you will be 1.) safe, 2.) knowing they are brand new and will last you for a good 5-10 years and C.) you can get warranty. used tires are to risky imo. just make sure you look them over, its not necisarily(sp) all about looks, its about the lifespan and how well they can hold up. safety first.

I agree, nothing wrong with used tires. i got some NICE 35x12.5x15 MTRs for 75 bucks.

i dont think age is that big of a deal on tires these days. some tires will last a long time. if they look like they are a little dry some tire shine will usually help that out.
