All Terrain Or Mud Terrain

getting some new procomp tires in a couple of weeks, what tires should i get, all terrain or mud terrain? thanks for the help.

sawred Oct 17, 2006 02:04 PM

Serisouly? You're gonna need to give a bit more info. What do you expect them to do? What do you want out of them? etc

BRENSRANGER Oct 17, 2006 02:10 PM

i drive on the road way more than i do in the mud.and i want the tire to last a long time with no problems, and has to be pretty quiet to,i am thinking the all terrain tires.

dixieranger44 Oct 17, 2006 02:15 PM

you answered your own question

BRENSRANGER Oct 17, 2006 02:20 PM

but i like how the procomp mud terrains look,i want the tire to look agressive,i still cant decide.but the all terrains would be better for me .

telemaster1952 Oct 17, 2006 02:31 PM

i would personally get m/t but you are looking for a/t

why not go bfg?

dixieranger44 Oct 17, 2006 02:31 PM

are you set on gettin procomps? BFG all terrains look more aggressive than the procomp all terrains.

BRENSRANGER Oct 17, 2006 02:40 PM

i like procomps better,i think BFGs whare out to fast.my dad has procomp all terrains on his superduty and he likes them, want to try them out.

There's always a compromise. Do you want the look or the ride/wear quality?
M/T's sure look a whole lot better (actually ProComp M/Ts look :thumbsdow) Get BFGs or at least something with side wall thread! The Cooper STT (new design) or GY MT/R's. also come to mind. But they are gonna be $$$ and wear quicker than A/T's.

I've had PC A/T's, BFG M/T's & Cooper STTs
($)<---------------------------------Price ($$$) Coopers close to if not exceeded $200/tire (33 others were 31s)
Noise ------------------------------->(Louder) Coopers louder but were 33x12.5 vs BFG 31x10.5
Style ------------------------------>(Better IMO)
Offroad -----------------------------> Coopers and BFGs close. Coopers were 33s BFGs 31s.
<----------------------------Street (wet) A/Ts are better

BRENSRANGER Oct 17, 2006 03:15 PM

thanks, i like those coopers but dont want to spend $200.00 on a tire.i think the procomp m/t dont look that bad.i can get them for $110.00 a tire.

ive got the pro comps now and i dont really like them, get bfg m/t's, im up in the air right now between bfg at and mt's and im leaning to the mt's cause they look a hell of alot cooler, i do way more road driving but im going to take the loss with the loud noise.......

UmphreysMcBill03 Oct 17, 2006 03:18 PM

He has 35s

Seems like you're set on PC MTs

So sure enough, seems like you answered your own question

if you had a set of BFG all-terrains wear out fast, you had other problems........i have had 2 sets of BFG all-terrains....the first set i replaced in 60,000 miles and the second set i took off at 40,000 miles and they still had 15-20,000 in them...........i am now on my 3rd set of BFG all-terrains(2nd set on my truck now).....if your suspension parts are in good shape, then a BFG a/t will last for minimum of 50,000 miles...heck they are warrantied to last 50,000 miles......

you will be disapointed with the Pro Comp's....

i had a set of the Pro Comp A/t's and they sucked....couldn't do anything with them in the snow, in rain they were way to slick, and they wore horrible.......

If you drive mostly on road, then you want the a/t's....any m/t is good on road, but they will wear faster than an a/t on the road....

BRENSRANGER Oct 17, 2006 03:31 PM

getting the pc m/t, thanks for all the help.my friend has BFGs a/t on his s-10,and he has no problems with them

xp1ik99 Oct 17, 2006 04:34 PM

get the bfg mt's, they look alot better with the side tread and are very similar price....

I like my BFG Muds over the stock BFG ATs I had. Only thing I don't like them (muds) is on a sandy/gravel road. They don't grip as well as the ATs. Of course the ATs didn't do too well in mud, but that's why one's a mud and the other an all terrain tire. For the most part though, the muds have been VERY good to me on all surfaces.

This time next year I should be at 4.88s and 35 BFG ATs though. Noise wise these muds aren't much louder as my ATs were. Matter of fact I'd say they are equal. I wore my ATs out fast, but I attribute that to me and my driving habits. Factor in the off-roading I was doing with them and my driving habits and I'd say I got great life out of them. All but 1 still had pretty decent tread left. I have 1 of those 3 as a spare since the stock spare is a P235 (~29inch) continental.

But yeah, I can't echo enough about others' suggestions of the BFGs. I had P235 BFG ATs on my 2wd 93 and loved them.

every review I read said the BFG MTs weren't any louder than the ATs. So I went with the muds and don't regret it. 99% on road driving here too.

how many miles can you expect out of the m/t's with good care for them??

a BFG m/t will get you anywere between 40,000-50,000 if you take care of it.....and all your suspension parts are in good shape...

xp1ik99 Oct 17, 2006 08:19 PM

40-50 sounds good, but im sure those last few thousand miles those tires are pretty much useless, looks like im going to start saving for my new tires.......

rangererv Oct 17, 2006 08:22 PM

if i could go back, i'd get mud terrains, not all terrains.
well actuall i'd get x-terrains, i love thoes tires.

2003stealthedge Oct 17, 2006 08:31 PM

ive had both i had 31" bfg mud terrains which were aggressive looking but killed me on gas, ride sucked, and wore quickly, sucked in rain, slid around in snow. I just bought the oem sized bfg all terrains about 3 months ago and havent had any problems. Awesome traction in rain and heard nothing but good about them in snow. Id go with a/t

xp1ik99 Oct 17, 2006 08:44 PM

dammit, your killing me, everytime i hear something bad i want to go back to an a/t (bfg at or nitto).......you people arnt making this any easier....
