Anybody heard about this? Procomp tire problems?

I was just checking to see if Cooper still made Procomp tires (they do) and I found this very disturbing page on problems with Procomp tires and 4 Wheel Parts (the store).

http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff115390.htm

I hadn't heard any of this? Any comment? I love Cooper as a company, so it's sad to hear that they may be making a defective product. However, they are contract manufacturing to Procomps specifications so the blame may need to be "spread around" -- don't know.

Most everyone I know has had only good experiences with Cooper branded tires -- I wonder what's going on with these Procomps? I don't know if this is just a small collection of horror stories, or evidence of a serious problem.

Certainly, I'm not impressed with 4 Wheel Parts as depicted in these either! Down the page a ways on this link is more allegations regarding 4 Wheel Parts.

http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff112163.htm

Edit: Another link: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff104095.htm

And: http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Bu...anyID=13081573 (Better Business Bureau report for the last 3 years -- they got a "C")

Cooper makes a TON of tires under different brand names -- look at this list from a lawsuit against Cooper over a problem years ago with bad "carcass" moldings that were patched and used instead of discarded.

http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/legal/cooptire.html

This was not unlike the problems Firestone ran into in some respects. In actual practice, very few tires were involved in the Cooper problem -- HOWEVER, the carcasses were used in a BUNCH of their brands and contract tire manufacturing and so the problem cropped up across a wide range of tires.

I've heard so many bad things about people not getting their products or refunds from 4wheelparts, that I'm afraid to try even a small transaction.

Never had any problems with ProComp tires...but what I should say is.... THAT I WOULD NEVER BUY PROCOMP TIRES or DEAL WITH 4WPW AGAIN....
A friend of mine ran the ProComp MTs and then after lifting his Jeep Cherokee he purchased the ProComp Xterrains.... While the traction is not bad, the rubber compound wears out too quickly and you have to rotate the tires properly due to the directional design of the tire.
While 4WPW may give you great deals on tires such as 4 for the price of 3; they have pissed me off more times than I would care to remember.... I have decided to stay away from 4WPW, purchase Jeep and Ranger parts online, and tires from manufactures such as BFG, GY, Pirelli, and Yokohama.

expect a mud tires to last more than 25-30,000 is silly...

Well, BFG and the other major brands have had recalls as well for major defects -- so this is not a big thing from the standpoint of HAVING a defect.

Since Procomp provides the tire warranty (not Cooper) and 4 Wheel Parts the extended warranties, the "customer service" problem appears to be on them. Then it would be up to them to seek a remedy from Cooper. That's just the way OEM manufacturing works.

And yes, M/T's never last like A/T's -- it's just the way it is. Tires with really good traction on rocks and the like have soft, flexible compounds. Tires which wear really well have harder compounds. Many tires intended for offroading are softer by design.

I beg to differ. swampers, yes but others, most of the time theyll last a bit longer than that...

I never really lked pro comp tires NOR 4wp. my dad had procomp ATs on his suburban (still does actually...) and they only have like 25k and they are cooked.

And you may never have. I didn't post this to say the tires in general were a problem, or to bash them in any way. I just thought it good information to share that I was surprised by, and thought I'd see if anyone else had any insight.

I've had good experiences with 4WP personally, but I've heard bad bad things about them. And as far as tire brands, I'll stick with my BFGs!

A number of tire companies make tires and place one or more other names on them instead of the company's name. I suspect that the quality of those tires is not on par with the quality of the tires that have the company's name on them. I stay away from those "off-brands". Cooper tires, with the Cooper name on them, are real popular in Montana, and I've never heard any complaints about them.
