28 slpine axle bearing replacement
I have a 94' Ranger XLT it is not full time 4X4 but it has automatic hubs.. Both front axle bearings are SHOT. Making rubbing sounds every time I turn. I bought inner and outer 28 spline axle bearings for both sides and am curious to how hard it is swapping them out

its not hard imo but iv done mine 2-3 times now lol. dont play in mud and water if u dont wanna buy bearings.
-rasie truck
-tires off
-pull hub off
-take flat head and hammer to pop the half moon key out of its slot
-pull splined washer off
-pull locker with two thin washers behind it, usually comes off with locker
than theres a lil wedge tht acts as a key before u can get the locknut off. best thing to use is a dental like pick...small wire works too MAKE SURE THE KEY IS OUT BEFORE YOU STARTING USING TOOL TO GET LOCKNUT OFF. if u dont you could cause a lot of trouble for yourself.
-after locknut take caliper off by squeezing pins in and tapping them out with a hammer hang caliper out of way
-take out side bearing out, flip to inside, take flat head and hammer to pry up seal cuz your replacing that anyways.
-take inside bearing out.
now to get the races out.
-take a flat punch and a hammer (3lb works great but regular will do just swing harder lol) put punch on back side of either race and go around it hitting till it comes out flip over and repeat. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE LIP THAT THE NEW RACES WILL SIT ON.
-place new race flat in hub/rotor. (bearing and seal installer are handy but not a have to) i take the old race and place it perfectly on new race and put a small piece of metal on old race and hit it till new race sits in hub on new lip flip over repeat and to do seal just set it in there and tap with hammer around it while holding it so it wont keep poppin out
hope this helps. kris
