Does anyone have experience with "Avon Tyres"?

I was tooling around on tirerack.com, looking for a deal on my Pirelli's, and they re-did their rating structure thing, and the Pirelli I am looking at is #2 on the list, #1 is an Avon branded tire.

I know that they have been making motorcycle tires for a long time, but I don't know about the automotive side.

They are ranked #1 with a little over 1 million miles reported, but the Pirelli's are #2 with over 5 million. They are pretty similar, but for less money and a better 'rank', is Avon worth it?

I can't find too much on the net, does anyone have any dealings with them?

Neil, I read that they are more or less "Cooper" and I have always liked them, as well as Daddy Griggs. I had an old set of Cooper Cobra GTS's and they were awesome.

I am reading reviews on the Pirelli and Avon tires I am interested in, and I'll tell you what -- I think my opinion is changing from the Pirelli to the Avon.

 

I have no idea about Avon's though I have heard of them and my dealer down here actually sells them. I've never asked him what he thinks, but I will.

 

I have no idea about car tires, but I run avon tires on my motorcycle and they are pretty nice. But that is a whole different ballgame!!

Twice the price, and people aren't really raving about them, and the 'ratings' from tirerack are "more higher" [Japanese speak]... I don't know, it might be time to 'run with the little dog' this time.

John, if you could ask the next time you might run into that fella, I plan on buying in about a week or so for when I go home.
