Best 35s?

Im considering keeping 35s on my truck, but i want to get the lightest ones I can to help cut down on power loss and drivetrain stress. Ive got 35x12.50x15 Summit mud dawgs right now, which im sure weigh around 65-68 lbs. I cranked the t bars down about 2" yesterday, and trying to drop the back some too...I think it looks alot better now. The only thing I dont like is the cost difference between 33s vs 35s. Im thinking about the bfg at's but it would be nice to find something cheaper but still looks good. I also found the Falken Wildpeaks but I cant find the weight.

If you're concerned about power and drivetrain stress you need to regear. 4.88 is what I'd recommend, a tuner will greatly improve the trucks driveablity as well.

Maybe you should put in the recommended gears for 35s, 4.88s.

I don't care how much "lighter" a different brand of tires is (it wouldn't vary by much, maybe 10 lbs at the most per tire) it's still gonna be a dog and stress the the drivetrain running 35s on 4.10s.

And actually to regear just the rear axle would cost about the same as 4 new BFG AT 35s.

EDIT: And as Korey said a tuner will help and you will need it to calibrate your speedo and shift points after regear

The only stress im really talking about is on the ball joints and lift spindles.

How is drivetrain stress the ball joints and lift spindles? And to reduce power loss you would defiantly need to regear.

I'm telling you man, you will save yourself a lot of pain and headache later by regearing. Right now the rear end, the engine, and the tranny are being strained to the max by those tires. And like I said the cost difference between new "lighter" 35s (that will not give you much but a few extra saved pounds) and regearing with be minimal. Both will cost right around $1000-$1500 and actually if you know a shop or a backyard mechanic who can regear, you could do it for a lot less like $500-$800. You will get A TON more benefit from regearing as well (saved drivetrain and more power).

If you don't believe me at least listen to Korey, he's got an auto 3.0 on 35s just like you so he defiantly knows what's up.

EDIT: Actually it looks like you've already had this discussion:

Well I'm actuallly in need of new tires before long because these are worn badly(cupping) and cracking some. And I ment to say ball joints in the first place.

Masteratarms93 04-04-2011 12:55 PM

Gotcha. Anyway if you do actually need new tires it really depends on what you want to spend and what you are doing with them.

Most guys running 35s (4x4 and 2WD) run:

BFG All-Terrain TA KOs
BFG Mud-Terrain KM2s
Goodyear Duratracs

Go on tirerack and spitball some prices.

Duratracs are softer tires which might not last as long in the Georgia heat.

Mickey MTZ's for an aggressive tire.
